why do you like two lights and big beams in front of you?

Hi All,

Been engineering the Krait phantom.....
I like the jump range and internals, but the two lights and big beams in front of me is just not like the aspX.

Why should i fly the Krait Phantom in your opinion to the farthest reaches of space??

i want to do do it but... mahhhhhhh, aspx better cockpit view.

Some people seem to be obsessed with every fraction of a LY in jump range. If the asp does what you want just use that. It's been tried and true since 3301. Phantom is the latest and greatest thing since sliced bread because it's new. If going far and looking at things is what you want, then the asp will do it fine.

You can look down in the two Kraits and see the ground below, which may help if you are looking for something. The Krait II allows you to carry a SLF. Otherwise, nothing wrong with the AspX ... it's a perfectly capable explorer.

Totally this. AspX isn't being decommissioned just because there's new kids in town.

Just had a look at Coriolis before posting and, apparently, a Phantom configured identically to an AspX can jump 1.5Ly further (72.05Ly vs 69.45Ly).

Having said that, my AspX can jump 80Ly (maximum) and, due to the removel of the ADS, I'll be able to bung a 3E cargo rack in it to bring stuff back (should that turn out to be useful) so I'm not really in any rush to replace it with a Phantom.
Granted, I could probably take a couple of the legacy modules off my AspX (though not the lightweight sensors) and bung 'em onto a Phantom to give that a similar benefit but, y'know, those modules were built for the AspX and they're staying on it.

The only thing that could persuade me to change my mind was if it turned out there was something out there that requires both of the free slots a Phantom has in order to interact with it.
For example, my AspX will have 1 free C3 slot as of 3.3 but if it turns out that there's something out there that requires recon limpets or research limpets and requires a cargo rack then maybe it'll be worth building a Phantom.
Alternatively, maybe there'll be something corrosive out there that we can bring back - if we have a CR rack fitted - and the Phantom can fit a C4 CR rack whereas the AspX can't because the free slot is a C3.
Course, having two free slots means you could fit a cargo rack and a repair controller to a Phantom if you're worried about taking damage too.

Second-guessing FDev, given all the fuss they made about implementing changes in a way that wouldn't be prejudicial against anybody already out exploring, I have a sneaky feeling that there won't be anything new out there which requires a different loadout.
If there is anything new out there, it'll be stuff that anybody who's already got a cargo rack fitted will be able to collect.
Which means my 80Ly AspX, once fitted with a cargo rack, will still be good for anything.

Why do people have such a hard time with cockpit support structures and tiny lights? I honestly never notice them. I dont know if it is because I spent a lot of time in aviation, but I see past them.

Bad habits die hard. I'm constantly scanning my panels to monitor settings, speed, fuel, shields, and ammo while maneuvering or fighting.

The cockpit view of the Asp Explorer makes space vistas so fantastic. Part of why I never did enjoy exploring in the Anaconda. My Asp Explorer only has around 35Ly range, as I don't often bother with heavy engineering.

The Krait Phantom has an awesomely designed and detailed interior. But IMO it's nothing compared to the Asp's Vista Dome for touring the galaxy.

Flying what is most enjoyable for you, can't go too far wrong!

I love my ASPX...it's the only ship in this game I refuse to sell. She opened this game up for me getting me to the far reaches of space...But, there is nothing wrong with a little variety. The Phantom will be a nice change of pace for exploring.

True, plus when you start getting into 60 and 70 jump ranges, I feel your jumping past everything you should be exploring. I consider my ASPX my FedEx ship. It gets me wherever I absolutely, positively have to be in a hurry. I just threw my grade 5 fsd on the Phantom and dropped a few modules and she did 46 lys without any sweat. That's perfect and I know I can push into the 50s if I want.
