Science model as presented by the stellar forge? Lore? Nostalgia?

Myself? Ships. The thing that draws me to sci-fi is the ships. I actually ignore sci-fi that doesn't feature ships. Why I struggle with Doctor Who.

I love the ships. They make a universe for me, and it won't surprise you to hear that not only is the Cobra Mk III my favourite ship in the game... But my favourite fantasy vehicle period.

For me, originally nostalgia - god the hours I spent playing the original on the C64 when it was release, I think I wore out a couple of joysticks. But the beauty of the current game has captured me, it really does look like you are out in the black at times. Also the freedom to do what I want, when I want, how I want. I have gotten so sick of playing games on rails, following a script. Not saying this is a perfect game, far from it, lots of things, both big and little need fixing, but then what game is 100% perfect anyway :D

In the hope -- some would say vain hope -- that Frontier will get its act together and build out a virtual world in space.

I don't care if they are biological entities limited to earth-like terrain and more correctly classified as mounts; Chocobos are superior to everything.

That aside, I love it because space and awesome Hyperspace animations. Years in and I'm not tired of that "loading screen" yet. It just gives me a sense of space that I only ever saw in movies and shows. Now I get to be the one jumping to another star, forging my path and doing whatever I please across the whole galaxy.

The realistic Galaxy with 400 billion stars and a 1:1 scale universe. And the faction aspect of the game, where you can cause expansions, wars or lockdowns just by being there, where your every action affects the game universe in some way.

As a teen in the mid 80's I played a game on a mate's BBC computer. Never knew the name but loved it. Many many years passed but I never forgot the little wire frame ship I flew all that time ago. Then not so long ago my son bought NMS (sorry) it seemed similar so I did some research and Oh My God its still here. Bought it and never turned back! A mid life crisis that I'll never regret. Not sure if the wife and kids are still here, hard to tell from the play room :D

I get to fly around the galaxy in a spaceship. I get to land on planets no one else in the game has ever been to, and I get to discover star systems no one else has ever seen. And there's always that pull - who knows, the next system I jump to might contain something weird, or cool, or dangerous, or significant, or hitherto completely unknown...

I'm an ex-FS sim fanatic, having built my own 737 Cockpit based across 5 servers. I never had any real interest in Space-Sim, beyond Star-Trek etc. Then Neil Armstrong told me about their planning for the moon mission, their craft and cramped modules. And I guess being an IT guy the whole 'they did that!' then! Wow.

Then along came E.D.

I love the ships. The bigger the better. The galaxy is amazing and being able to fly into the Nebulae, do my own tours etc. The combat used to be amazing, not so much now. It's changed. Used to be Combat was to gain your Elite rank, and while it still is, the AI is now tuned to be as difficult as possible for what I consider, no reason at all.

E.D. is not a game. It's not a sandbox and it's not a Sim. It's an experience.

If I had any wish, it'd be that they'd publish an API to the flight controls, and spacial awareness. If I had that, I'd be buying a haulage container and building a full blown space sim.

Because it is the best 'fly a spaceship' game I am aware of. :D

As difficult as possible? I am not sure I understand what you mean? :S
