Why does normal delivery pay more than smuggling?

Good question. I'm sure it's been asked before but I don't know if an answer was ever found? Something else FDEV need to tune?

Common sense would say the extra risk should provide bigger rewards...

Yea, Fdev needs to fix this. Just now with the same faction a 96 battle weapons smuggling run was paying 2.5 mil and a 96 explosives standard delivery was paying 5.5 mil... both going about the same distances. Been like this all day.

Yep.. although it seems Ok with passenger missions. The other day I transported a wanted criminal mastermind 700ly (round trip) for about $20mil while the other missions were less.

Because in smuggling, the one bringing in the goods doesn't get rich. It's the one that sells them to the user, that make the dough. Look at how the drug world works. Do you think the guys pulling bales through tunnels are rolling in it?

That might be the case but what incentive is there to do any smuggling in ED if the rewards are less?

Being gangster.

its about roleplay do what you want be who you want. many here want to be hand solo and he was never rich he wore the same waistcoat and shirt for 4 movies :D

Yeah, I guess you have a point. I don't understand why people want to be pirates either (as the pay is rubbish and you get a bounty on your head)... but I suppose it's just not what I want to do [where is it]

They certainly are making more than truck drivers.

Smuggling profits are all about distance travelled. They get into the millions with 250LY runs from systems outside the bubble.

'Hand Solo'

Thank you for this great gift of laughter [yesnod]

Yeah, but you're not the seller when you take a delivery mission. That's irrelevant.

On topic:

This is my very pet peeve; if a CMDR takes the role of a drug lord, invests on narcotics, smuggles 15 ly's and sells it to market he gets a profit of Cr 2000 / ton. That is Cr 216 000 for 108 tons.

But if said CMDR plays the role of a mule and hauls somebody elses (very same 15 ly distance) narcotics he easily nets Cr 4 000 000 for 108 tons.

Immersion? Lore? Rhyme & reason?
