Newcomer / Intro Why does the system map show places i cant go to?

I have a mission in this system to hunt 4 pirates.

2 stars and an asteroid field.

The only thing that shows up on locations in the first star.
Pirates are not at that sun or anywhere else. (there is nothing else for me to select) so they must be at the other star or in the asteroid field. But i can't go to them.

Go to an Unidentified Signal Sources or the Nav-Point near the Star ant kill everything with a WANTED Status

(edit: maybe just that, what you can handle ;) )

if this is your default sidewinder, surely you have the basic discovery scanner?
It can detect planetary bodies relatively close.
Make sure its assigned to a firegroup (right hand screen lets you add additional firegroups so you don't fire everything capable of firing on trigger button 1!).
Fire it off every 500LS.
Also when you are moving at over 3c (3 times the speed of light) start looking around the system . Keep one of the stars to your left but far off (say 200ls) but on the side of your cockpit view.
Notice how it moves against the background of stars. This is stellar parallax. (you see it in side scrolling games where distant background doesn't move as fast as near backgrounds).
The background of stars are very far away and is effectively still.
Any planetary bodies in system will be moving against that background like the star if you are not moving directly towards it.
Unfortunately, Stars are the brightest objects in the system. Planets and moons are smaller. But the idea is to ID possible planetary bodies becuase they move against the background of stars and then get close enoguht to Basic Discovery Scan them.
Once IDd as "Unexplored" planetary bodies, you can then scan them by targeting them individually and getting closer. Once close enough your target HUD will show "scanning". This distance varies on how big the target is. Stars you can be 200ls plus away. Some asteroid fields take 7mKM proximity before you can scan them.
Once this final scan has occured, it will have a name like STARNAME Body 1 Moon 2.
The scan information can be sold off at the cartographic contact in a station.
The good places to find pirates/wanted will be USS or in Resource Gathering Points. Miners are sitting ducks for pirates. And some Miners are wanted too... Get em both!
The Resource Gathering points aren't only in asteroid belts, but also in planetary rings.
If you want more detail, there's a player made guide in the appropriate section of the forums.

That "second Star" is a Red star, and you will be able to see it on the "Star Field Background"...I just don;t know where. A trick for finding it, is to looks around for a 'brightish" red star, and then fly towards it in SC, but not "directly" towards it. If you look closely at the star's position in the sky, it will eventually start to traverse across the starfield (if it is indeed the correct star).

Failing that, you could always just go to your GALAXY MAP, click the SYSTEM you are currently in and Buy a Star Chart for that system.

Simple Solution: in a binary system the second star is ALWAYS on the oposite side of the orbital path from star1 and it is ALWAYS on the outside of this path (because the star you drop out is the heavyer one). Although in a system with 3 or more stellar bodys this may not apply because this systems tend to be a little more chaotic...
