Why does the target panel show one less jump than needed?

Seeing as I'm sitting in an eternal witch space jump, I thought I'd ask this. In the left hand panel, it always shows one jump less than it is.
E.g I have 3 more jumps to go before I reach my destination, but the nav panel says it's 2.

If you have four jumps to go, it shows +3. That isn't too hard to figure out.
But it's a moot point, as it is being changed in 1.5, so that just the total number of jumps is shown.

You are counting the gaps, not fenceposts.

Look carefully, It says
Where are you are
+ X jumps
Jump to where you want to be.

Because if you had no extra jumps, it would

Where you are
(+ zero jumps)
Where you are jumping to.

It is showing how many systems there are (fenceposts) and not how many gaps. (Jumps)

All of the above.

In the 2.0 beta, this is changed for the mathematically challenged amongst us.

It now reads, "n jumps to x", without the pesky necessity of adding 1.

Find it interesting they changed it. Made plenty sense to me...the display shows your next jump destination's details along the track you set, + number of additional jumps to final destination.

Oh well....either way works I suppose.

Yeah - me too! I found it perfectly reasonable once I thought about it for a bit. In fact, on reflection, I think I prefer it the way it is now. Why did they change it?

Wait,

It says,

Location:

X system.

Destination:

Y system

+4 jumps

Z system

Explanation: You are now at X system. This jump will take you to Y system. You'll have to make 4 more jumps to your final destination.

So, this was hard to understand and they are changing it.

Will it still show the immediate jump location? I sometimes use it to avoid certain systems en route, without having to check the map or the target list every time.
