Why doesn't rift have forward facing camera?

I am sure there must be a reason for it - and i have not yet tried the rift but i am really looking forward to getting the CV1 version eventually.

I cna see there must be some disadvantages from being cut off from the world - what i don't understand is why it does not have a camera (or maybe two) so that you could push a button on the rift and it would display whatever is in front of you in real life? Would this not avoid having to take it off when you need to see what is going on? Is there some reason this is not feasible?

At first the rift is a VR headset, not an augmented reality headset.
Second is that such a camera would have a viewpoint 10cm from your eyes, that's a difficulty for immersion I guess.
Third it has an USB socket there, you can attach a camera yourself. People did that.

But Oculus focuses on VR output and input, not on augmented reality.

What it does have is a tiny gap down the side of my nose that is rather useful for seeing my keybaordfsgff

Ha! Very useful indeed if not a little eye straining at times. I'm hoping FD will eventually implement some sort of virtual keyboard that you can use along with something like the Leap Motion controller or a glove etc.
