Why doesn't the Odyssey Tutorial tell you how to actually clone a security profile after scanning it? what button do you have to push?

Overall, it seems like a sensible tutorial... little mission story to keep it interesting, it explains more or less what to do.

But now we're in the territory of using Elite's text UI for a first person shooter/adventure game, and its at the very least not exactly intuitive.

So scanning some of the dead guys was easy enough, but there is no instruction whatever on what button you have to press for the cloning.

And you know, I tried Youtube and wikis for instant info, before coming here to ask, because I couldn't find anything...

In general every tool switches to "illegal" mode with R. And since the tutorial also fails to tell you, here's tip for free. The overload mode of your charge tool can do more then just power doors ;) You can also one shot take down people with it, if you sneak up behind them in crouch.

Also, it is illegal to have those tools out, so always holster if you are in overload or clone mode, because the guards will shoot you for it. Same with running around with your guns out, and not stopping when told for a scan.

The tutorial does tell you this. It literally has a popup telling you to press R to change mode.

For the gun they don't become hostile immediately they five a warning, also to pull the gun down use the "u" key.

It does tell you; the "r" button press request should appear on the monitor when you are in the power room. The trick is that you need to remember to switch to the scan tool, or it won't appear

They also issue a warning for every tool you have out in illegal mode if spotted , but you have to be fast and you only get 1 warning.

If it does tell you that you need to press "r", I missed it as well as the OP - I spent ages wandering around (re)scanning all the bodies I could find (with the guy on comms moaning at me for taking too long). Even having worked out that I needed to change modes, I didn't see anything saying I did it by pressing "r", so I ended up looking in the keybinds in options to find it.

Several of those messages in the tutorial flash up on screen very briefly and are easily missed, if you don't happen to be paying attention at that exact second. Better written tutorials keep the message onscreen until you've proved you've seen it by doing what it asks you to do i.e. in this case pressing "r".

After changes/updates, I always look through the unmapped functions that are added in the control section. This at least give you an idea about the available features in game. If I see one I don't understand, I'll usually map it and see what it does.

I agree the help/tutorial might have been more verbose, but its a bit the nature of this game to live and learn.

Me yesterday: Illegal lvl3 identity.. Jump on a structure and Oh look a NPC soldier. Let me scan you sir.. I hit the wrong buttons while attempting to drop my cloned profile.. I arm a grenade. The NPC forgets the scan he wants to perform and draws his gun and warns me. I am still holding the grenade button.. Switching weapons puts the grenade back into my pocket but the gun in my hand.. stress lvl rises.. NPC still angry.. I now stow my weapons.. NPC is happy.. and two seconds later remembers he wants to scan me.. I now drop my cloned identity just in time... This time without typo'ing a grenade out of my pocket.. Phew... Now back shutting down the alarm and THEN to murder everyone...
