Why don't outposts have large pads? Seriously

I am flying a Type-7 (which SHOULDN'T be a large pad ship anyway! It's the same size or smaller than a python which apparently uses a medium pad). I just took a mission for 60,000 and gives me federation rep, plus extra cargo for a big haul. Turns out it's turned in at an outpost that doesn't even have a pad to suit my suit hunky crap ship. So now I have to find a black market to earnback a portion of the FINE I'm about to get because I can't complete the mission.

My question is why don't ALL outposts have even just 1 large pad? Trading in the type-7 is a pain because of it!

I also don't want someone saying "well just trade around it. Don't go to outposts." but that's the DUMBEST rebuttle. I shouldn't have to do a ton extra for every trade route just because I'm in a large ship. (Going into galaxy, systems, looking at the station to seeing if it's an outpost. If it is, find a new route that isn't). I find missions rarely enough. When I get a mission that says "Go here. It's X light years away. You have enough Cargo space. You have enough jump range. You can do this mission"

Nowhere in the mission will it say "Oh and it's an outpost so you can't be in a large ship."

Sorry for the rant, but I'm kinda tired of stuff like this. If Frontier won't change outposts to accomodate large ships at least make it WAY clearer if it's a station or an outpost.

Lack of upfront clear information does seem to be a theme at times with ED, I would imagine they don't have a large pad due to size restrictions as they are significantly smaller than Orbis/Coriolis (sp?) types.

As far as missions are concerned I don't think you should even see ones you can't land at the destination in the same way you cant see ones you don't have the cargo space for.

Don't the icons in your target panel and system map make it clear enough?

I've never noticed them being wrong.

Edit: ah, sorry - you mean when accepting a mission.

Yeah, I guess you wouldn't always have that information.

Oh I don't know....maybe because they're just that, outposts? As Thorn's post suggests, you can't expect a big ship to be able to dock everywhere you know. It'd be like saying a supertanker should be able to dock at a little seaside village as well as at major ports. But I do agree that the mission text should be a little clearer, or better yet the system map should include in the station/outpost data the number and size of pads available.

It's totally fine that large ships cant dock at outposts. Otherwise trading would be even easier and trading opportunities for smaller ships would be even less.

That the Python can dock at outposts is dubious, however.

So is the offering of outpost delivery missions for ships that cannot complete them. On the other hand, when you played up to a large ship you should be knowledgeable enough to not take them.

Yeah letting you know type of station you're going to could be in the mission description. I don't have issues with larger ships not being able to dock at outposts though. A reasonable gameplay decision. I was disappointed that the T7 couldn't do so, but it wasn't that hard making the transition to no outpost trade routes. No big deal.

I think the Python being there is just so there's an expensive high tier (if there is tier) multipurpose ship that can land on an outpost that people can aspire/grind for. Of course they then...

So, before you accept the mission you open your little book of system maps and LOOK. Not difficult is it? The guy giving the mission doesn't know how big your ship is He assumes YOU do though.

Actually, he does. You can't accept the mission when you have no cargo space, after all.

question of why outposts have no big slots, is wrong. Question why the Type 7 is seen as a big ship, is a good question. When I jumped from the Type 7 into a phyton, it was a fresh air bubble as I saw that medium pad (&outposts) are used...
And why the mission don't warn you, is also a good point to treat...

Some mission boards should have icon for delivering stuff to outposts, do i have to check destination on map every time i feel like going there with large ship?

Top tip: use the population filter to limit the galaxy map to only those systems you can dock at so you know exactly who your potential customers are. If you find a system with just one large station move the population slider until it disappears the turn it back until it just appears. Its not foolproof a few systems have multiple outposts so the population might be higher than a single station system but is does filter a lot of the systems that are no good to you in the galaxy map

Docking is kind of nonsensical, we should still be able to extend a docking arm to a station in zero g like how the space shuttle docks with the ISS.

Maby you could not allow commodities etc but still allow us to refuel, check missions etc.

Looking at the System map is the best way, provided you have the details of course. Alternatively get rid of your T7 and buy an asp or python.

I have suggested to FD that the ships should indicate what size pads they use, and the stations should state what size pads they have (and possibly how many). A T7 uses a large pad because of its height, whereas the Python, being less tall, can use a medium pad.

Some sort of anchor + shuttle approach would be cool. A small ship to ferry goods between large ships and the outpost.

Why not cargo. If you can fly close to a luxuries trader and magically transfer your cargo why not an outpost?
