Why FDev.. just why make this game so tedious on purpose?

Reckon we're at /thread if @Bottom Hat is the voice of maturity now.

PS if you've got jelly babies, please share. Only if they're dusted with starch though. None of those fake Haribo rubbers (that's erasers for our friends across the pond, please don't report me).

Go for Ruben thornless. Best blackberries ever and bigger than grapes!!!
Thanks for the tip, CMDR. (y)
After lengthy discussions with the mrs the decision is made and the blackberry is coming out tomorrow, so we'll just nick the free ones from the hedge.

The space will be used for a blackcurrant as a neighboring allotment holder has let me have her bush.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not, but have a jelly baby anyway! ;)

(I dunked it in icing sugar as well, so it's a dark red one, with a white head)

Are you suggesting that I am a white knight for the game? ;D

Suggesting that Elite is not a goal designed game is not supported by the evidence. Look at the FCs in any populated system. Look at the subscription base for any how to youtuber for this game. Ship acquisition, engineered module acquisition, guardian module acquisition, ship and permit unlocks, etc. etc. are the progression mechanics and they are structurally goal oriented. Goals are not intrinsically "bad" or "evil". The process to achieving those things can be however.

If you are agreeing that more effort could be put into narrative character-based game play then kudos to you!

I am deeply engaged in playing other narrative or survival games atm, but have hopes that Odyssey will be different that ED is now. My best times in ED were playing with friends, grinding - yeah I did it, but not really fun.

Well, it really isn't the players fault because without any structure, anything people do, fun or unfun, is valid. I think back in earlier days though, because every goal took alot longer to achieve, it was practically impossible to enjoy the game if you were thinking about making it to the end. Sure there was a bit of that and you can't help it, but if you wanted to have fun focusing on the goal just wasnt effective. Especially since the game itself didn't celebrate anything for you getting there... its exactly the same as before you started.

Sure its different now because everything is nerfed, the race to the end doesn't appear to be unreasonable.. but the nature of the game hasn't changed to make the experience of goal seeking any better than day 1.

Yeah if there was more typical game structure, say like a tie fighter campaign to introduce the powerplay factions or guardian things, well when i was more rosy eyed i thought it would make elite the best game it could be.. but hoping for any more than we get is a bit of a futile exercise.

Do you remember when it was status quo for people to warn new players not just go for ships etc? When i was new that's what the advanced players were saying to everyone else. There were no 2 min tutorials for people who only have a 2 minute attention span in elite.. ha ha.. the obsidian ant tutorial was by far the longest video i had ever watched from youtube back then too.
