Why has kinetic weaponary a better efficiency against shields than thermic weaponary?

Not saying it is OP or whatnot but it seems weird as thermic weaponary should be used against shields and kinetic against hull.
However, I rarely use a laser these days. Either I use hybrid weapons (Plasma, Rails) or kinetics against shields (Multis but especially Frags).

So by design, should it stay like that? Because my frag cannons deal more DPS and have a better DPE than any laser could ever achieve.
It feels a little odd.

:)

Sounds odd too. In my experience lasers do more damage than kinetics. Mc's are rapid fire so will make continuous damage but not much and definitely more to hull. Dunno. Maybe something's changed. I'll have to test it out sometime and see if you're right.

I've seen plenty of testing that shows thermal weapons to be more effective against shields than kinetic, with pulse being the most effective. There is a bump when you get to the hybrid weapons, like rails, but that's not exactly the same as kinetic only weapons, they deal both Thermal, and kinetic damage. Both Frags and Multi's spray the shields with projectiles, the barrage of metal must have an effect on shields that make them feel better, but the testing proves otherwise.

I'm certainly no expert and happily will stand to be corrected... it would seem to me though that thermic weapons work by heating up their target (hence the name)? Shields would be just an energy field, so would experience little effect from being heated up (it would just make them more energetic, really) whereas we know the physical ship itself is vulnerable to heat damage - it even has a meter to show it's residual heat. Kinetic (going by the name) functions by having a physical moving object (with kinetic energy) doing physical damage... ie: putting holes in the shields that have to be "repaired" so the shield's integrity can be maintained.

This is ONLY an opinion formed from intuitively interpreting the names - I claim NO other evidence.

I think beams are more effective than pulses vs shields but pulses have better module penetration.
