Why haven't I picked this up recently?

I didn't even know I cared much about this, but I think it's that the multiplayer aspect is getting love but not the singleplayer. Wings are apparently the biz and I'd love to have a go, but I'm too crap to play multiplayer. I wish they could've implemented NPC wings for players as well. Despite the fact that me and everyone else has by now gotten over 'no offline', it'd be nice if they tried to maintain some parity between the solo and multiplayer games.

I used to boot this up to do some simple trading runs just for fun. And I did have loads of fun, and I guess I could do that again till the cows came home, but the increasing multiplayer aspect just makes it seem pointless. To add to that, they're not even trying to implement the same stuff for solo players. TBH I always thought the offline-refund-monkeys were just whingers, since they got beta etc, but if this continues, where multiplayer is buffed but single-player is left alone, I guess they were prescient whingers.

I would be happy if I could have NPC wings.

I did some testing of Solo last night in Wings and there is a clear impact for the solo player. Because the NPC's now "Wing" up, you have to be really careful engaging a ship because if it is in a Wing, you could very quickly have more opposition than you can handle. What isn't there is the ability for a player to hire npc wings. I found solo still very playable even in my starter sidewinder, I just have to fly carefully.

The way I look at it the multi player at launch was very deficient and "Wings" is addressing that in a big way. We don't yet know what 1.3 is. Powerplay could be regime change or it could be ships launching from other ships or something else.

They may have prioritised getting wings working between players first, but that doesn't mean NPC wingmen will never come.

Personally I think that many of the people who do not want to play multiplayer think that it is too dangerous and full of griefers. Sure there are smoe nasty pirate types out there but it is not as bad as you think. I would honestly suggest you give it a go instead of just dismissing it. I am a big fan of this game but the multiplayer aspect is essential to my enjoyment and would imagine it to be far more dull without it.

Also, just because you want to play solo or the reasons for not playing in open is because you fear PVP I would argue that you are denying yourself a huge part of the game. Surely you have a few friends playing the game? If not why not seek out other players on this forum who feel the same as yourself? You could play in a group together free of PVP. That is what these modes are for...

To deny yourself the best of what the wings update has to offer is silly in my eyes. At least without giving it a try first.

Here's the thing - with the danger level going up, the improvements to AI, and the possibility of facing multiple foes, the single player experience has, for me, improved drastically.

The interdiction battle is now more tense as there's a chance of a decent enemy on the end of it.

I'm still really hoping for persistent NPCs. This will add another dimension for lone wolf players in open, pure solo, and multiplayer gameplay.
