Why I am not buying a CV1.

And that is probably the reason most are holding back. However, they don't say that, preferring to trash the tech overall instead.

I'll second that. Unless you have a very strangely wired brain indeed, it's impossible not to be blown away by ED in VR on a good rig.

To the OP. Dude, if you haven't even tried it...listen to 777DRiver's reply to you. You need to give it a try somewhere.

The first YEAR of having a DK2 I can't even describe how epic the IMMERSION is. I read your OP and every point you made I privately scoffed at. Not cause I needed to be right. Your opinion matters as much as mine does. But because, dude, just try ELITE DANGEROUS WITH A DK2 or CV1.

You'll most likely laugh out loud out of embarrassment you took such a strong stance against something you never even tried. Dont worry about graphics, they are pretty damn good, don't worry about the other points.

IMMERSION. I can't even play ED on my 4k monitor with my 980ti (and it runs beautifully). All about VR dude. Come to California sometime, I'll give you a demo. :)

Elite is the killer app. I don't think any of the other ones are compelling. If I wasn't so into it I wouldn't be getting the headsets either.

The Oculus is a great device and the headtracking and resolution are both vastly improved over the DK2. It's really well done, far beyond anything I imagined when I backed the original kickstarter campaign. But at the end of the day it's all about the games. Without Elite, the Oculus would be a fancy Wiimote to me.

TL;DR: Don’t get me wrong, I want to love VR. I want to want to buy a CV1/Vive. It’s just that every time I read about them, I find stuff like the above list that completely turns me off.

It is wrong to say that 1st-person shooters don't work in VR. It's just that they are very very extreme experiences, and neither platforms* want their customers puking up all over their nice devices. Half Life 2 was one of the first ever VR games, and there's a program that can retro-fit older games called VORPX. They say it will work with the CV1 "Avoiding any “ballpark-estimates”: as soon as possible."

Judging by your avatar I would imagine you're a fan of the-motor-provides-the-push bikes. Here's a video clip of someone using VORPX to ride a motorcycle through the streets of GTA5. All the MegaCorps garbage of the headset makers might turn you off, but this might turn you on.

Try flyinside fsx and eurotruck sim 2. There are plenty more but these are just as good as ED

ED has been the shining light, but others are sharing the mantle now.
Project Cars, Subnautica, Luckys Tale, VRDesktop, Apollo 11 etc are now extremely good and getting better.

It's still early days but personally I think the future looks very bright indeed.

why ? i still dont get what is so bad about that that its a reason not to buy it? its not like you have to manually login everytime you want to do anything.

you need the login because the runtime is in effect the oculus home system. ie the app store is built into it. it looks quite convenient actually.
the rift setup has been modelled on smartphones, ie, if you have an iphone or an android phone, you have to set up user accounts before you can do anything with it, the rift is no different to that.

Its actually a non-issue if you already have Elite Dangerous as there is absolutely no reason to download it from Oculus. The DK2 and CV1 will operate fine whether you have the standalone install, Steam Version or the Oculus version.
