Horizons Why i hate that engineer expansion so much...

Not played since a while so i thought i might try a bit the engineer expansion, since the new one "guardian"s coming out soon i maybe should upgrade some modules on the fer de lance . I've read they improved it made it less tedious.
Well not really heres my story... First i had to get meta alloys, doesnt sound too bad , just have to spend a few hours to pleiades, 50 jumps to go there, fuel scooping every 2 jumps or so , browsing the web to cope with the tedious. An evening to go there and find the alloy without too much trouble.
Now i need to back to deciat 40 more jumps to do..scooping , browsing the web ,browsing gal net, waiting.I am almost there, few jump left then suddendly i am interdicted, so fast its impossible to avoid it , i am pulled too close to the sun, heat damage is very high but i managed to escape and jump to next sytem.
The problem is the heat damage keep going on in the next system , although my ships is at 90% hull or so i suddendly hear, module malfunctioning: cargo hatch. Oh well its ok ill just repair it next stat.."jettisoning cargo".. What ?!!!? OH fffs all the meta alloy jettisoned while in super cruise. All an evening and afternoon completely wasted.I have not even access to the first engineer.
No i dont want to go back to pleiades.

Best part is even if you have the cargo hatch offline it'll still malfunction at 98% integrity and drop ALL of the hardest to find mats you have. Happened twice to me; and just another in the very long list of reasons why RNgineers was a complete and total failure.

Sounds to me like you hate interdictions and the consequences of them, rather than Engineers. And I can agree with that. The interdiction logic in the game is very poor.

You know you can simply choose to start with another engineer, right? Just go with Tod Mcquinn or the dweller if you want fast upgrades. OF COURSE if you choose to gain access with felicity using a FDL it's gonna take forever.

I know, but i wanted to upgraded its drive and thruster so i thought i could do the whole trip with it. To make it a less unsufferable to join bounty hunters community goal for ex .If only i could commision ship upgrades from afar...

Yes thats lot of little things adding up like that leading to fun killer events .

I imagine the pain it must be, i am browsing the missions right now and none offers the reward material i require, if any at all.

Yeah there is no aspect of the game that the engineers doesnt diminish. No level playing field for pvp, increased interdiction rate, loss of any individual character ships might have, not to mention the grind and the ridiculous casino aspect.
Its a shame, they had a great game and then        *d on it.

BTW if you dont carry engineers mats you interdiction rate will markedly decrease, the only positive note about the engineers imo; the mats make great npc pirate bait.

I just bought Horizons, didn't went after the engineers yet, but can't you do the meta alloy run with something else, with better jump range (excuse my noobness if a FDL is already good to travel, I never owned one), like an AspX?

I just hate shopping, which is what engineers is. It's quite the dullest game mechanic I've ever come across. Should have seen this coming, though, when I watched a 30min video from our Dave explained how much fun it would be to carry passengers about back at the pre alpha hype stage.

What i want from ED is more wonderment not more shopping.

The FDL is awful to travel with , but i had to move it. To get the meta alloy i had to rebuy a fully equiped asp to get 30lY+ jump , the fdl is 10ly or so only .Now i see i require a     on of material to rank up and get the upgrades i want, some of them are not micro materials.
For example i need some praseodymium, nothing with that reward on bulletin board, evena fter trying multiple instances .Getting it with the fld will take ages , its not even fitted for mining, i dont want to sell my modules. So i could get the asp again and refit it for mining but then.. How to transfer the praseodymium, betwen my ships? i Just cant even do something that basic, nor even stock it in an hangar .
Every step, there seems to be something new kicking me in the balls.Huge spreadsheet list of things to check for , thanks to the community, else it would be even worse.Ton of travels...The guy who conceived it is clearly insane.

I have not wanted to go engineering!
OP NPC's are still around. It is definitely a nightmare for interdictions with NPC's. They scoop the cargo automatically, and instantaneously. I hadn't really noticed that for a long time. Because I was to busy trying to keep my ship.
"Drop your cargo and I'll let you live" Cargo gets dropped and they start firing on you.
Doesn't seem to matter what the wording is, but I have not had an interdiction where the NPC won't try to kill you.
The only ones were those few that interdicted then flew away.
If you kill the op after dropping the cargo it is gone.

You got to wonder if the devs are going to address this interdiction issue as it's been shown to be totally flawed.
Hardly a day goes by without a legitimate concern of how poor this is and yet not a single response.
Lets not beat about the bush here, the whole of season 2 is way behind schedule after the long wait for engineers which is still a tedious game breaking chore.
People want the game to be interesting and fun that is why they point out flawed mechanisms ingame which with every new patch we have a brace of new game breaking problems.

I thought Frontier to be an open and honest to goodness good game developer who could listen to their customers. Alas that doesn't seem to be true anymore, the further they crawl up Sony/Microsofts rectum the further away from Elite we drift.

What's the next game buster are we going to get, it's just round the corner after all.
Another inadequte beta process and some well polished drivel dropped into the game no doubt.

Fix Interdictions!

I was getting away from interdictions an hour ago, and a thought popped into my head. ********* game developers are sitting back, laughing at our frustration as they suck on their beers. *********** Hope a fly gets in it for a swim!

@avow555 again crying? :) ... Interdictions can be managed just fine with some skills and knowledge. You can either avoid them completely or flee safely from them. I needed lately use basic D graded ship for commodities transfer and safely avoided all coming interdictions. Learn how to do things better, is not needed complain at all...

@OP start with engineers in FDL is bad idea (stick with ASP you mentioned, you will progress much smoother). Ideally is upgrade first your ASP (and you can use it anytime later for "long range" tasks) and after this go for upgrading combat ship(s). Here is one advice which I learned late myself: equip on your FDL one 4lvl cargo rack before you switch to multi-role vessel. You will find this very handy later, in moment when you will have unlocked upgrades which you want (for FDL) and will want bring commodities to FDL location and save yourself boring travelling. This way you can do things much easier, faster, learn few new things about ED space and mainly have fun.

A sad tale to be sure.

There are a few things that can be done to reduce the suffering. There's a very good stickied thread on how to efficiently approach the engineers, which is worth a read.

First, you don't need to use a bad transport ship like a FdL to run about. Buy a Hauler and D- rate it except for FSD & thrusters. Use that to scoot about and move components, etc. Its disposable. Or use an Asp. Just avoid the interdictions by high waking.
You can do module transfer between ships, and cargo transfer too now.
