Why I love my Clipper

Today was the primary reason why I prefer multi-purpose role ships.

BH:
I had a frame shift interdiction device installed and went after wanted ships, or ships that are clean, but are hostile towards me. As they attack me once I interdict them. :). I realize that bounties need to be 30K Cr or higher for it to be worth it. As each haul integrity % is around 10K in the Clipper. Once I interdicted a transport from the hostile faction, they dropped cargo. So I became a smuggler. Some slaves and other minor stuff.

SSS:
i could never kill all 4 conda's in a SSS with my vulture, well I got them today! Got 400K in bounties and 50K worth of gold, plus I still had my cargo from above!!!

conflict Zone:
i took a mission to kill 5 birds for 25K, it was fun!

Trading:
once I found a good trade route, I changed configuration on my bird and was able to get 216T while keeping things I like on it. The trade route is giving me 2500 Cr per round trip. So just over 500K for the trip.

Overall, I'm very happy with my bird and have no plans on getting rid of it. I accept all of its warts too!!!

im sure the Federal drop ship would be pretty darn fun too, at this price point

Clipper FTW!! :D

Great ship, love it as well.

And I don't own a Dropship, but it really doesn't look as good as the Clipper :p

I love my clipper so much I sprung for the extra 100,000cr for the wood floor and stainless steel trim option. The dock workers are so impressed they throw themselves on the hangar floor so I can walk across their bodies and not get my feet dusty. It's good to be an Imperial noble!

I hated the Clipper. I only had 30M to outfit it when i first got it, and with the 128t rack (with class 6D shields) could n't hold up against a Cobra. I'm not buying class 7 shields on that budget, I'm not mad!

You really confused me when you said your clipper could take on 4 condas, but your Vulture couldn't. To me, the Vulture is the very best combat ship in the game, and the FdL eats it's dust. I can 2-shot condas with some well-aimed hits in my Vulture with it's dual PA's, but I have trouble killing anything with my Clipper.

You people boggle me :p

I loved my clipper... right up until I had to fly 50 LY to buy a commodity because I couldn't dock with the outpost right next to me. Urgh. Maybe it'll be worth it after I have the funds to deck it out. Right now I'm much happier in a vulture.

Overcoming all the `conda's in a SSS does sound pretty darn appealing though. Mmmmm

with this build I could hold down my fire button for 21 seconds.

vulture fire power plus two C2 beam lasers. Took shields down in seconds and can get power to 75% ish in a conda before I have to stop firing for a second or two.

Well, yes, but it's not only about the firepower. I found that my Clipper was a massive target. Also, 47M was out of my price range at that time.

I love her so much I'm taking her on a trip around the edge of the galaxy :D Explore with class!

No really, she's beautiful inside and out, insanely fast, has an unparalleled front-up view, decent cargo space and armament and good power capabilities.

Downsides are that she's a big target, a smaller Python outguns her and the nacelles can get annoying in docks. That's why I wouldn't use her for PvP against similar sized ships, but for PvE it's perfectly viable. The great thing about this ship is that you can run away at will, recharge shield and come back, or just boom and zoom a heavier more powerful but slower ship - bang, run away, get distance, turn around, close in, bang, run away, repeat. Obviously a human would run away in this case, but AI do not.

I reached Baron the other day. Yay!

Now I just need to save up for my Clipper - got 7m plus my Cobra and T6 (I'd happily sell the mini-cow, but not my Cobra!).

But I'm just crap at saving creds. I keep getting distracted :D

Ho Hum! I'll get there eventually.

I made Baron today and I've spent all my cash on the discounted Clipper at Nu. I had to do it; one can't be an Imperial Baron without a Clipper, what, what!
It'll be some time before I make the cash to upgrade it to a decent level. I could sell some of my other fully upgraded ships but I love them and can't bear to let them go (not even the +9millon T6), even if I don't use them much. I really am a romantic fool.
I'm saving for the Imperial Courier now. I just hope I don't need to be a relative of the Emperor in terms of rank to own one. :D

I'm actually a bit worried about mine. Ranked up to Baron in an asp a few weeks ago which was painful, got the clipper, and instantly loved it. Did some trading to give me a bit of a financial buffer (only had a couple of mill and 2 rebuys when I kitted her out) then got to about 25 mill and the lure of the vulture was too tempting, especially after the price nerf. And besides, was also a bit brain dead from trading. Spent about a week hunting at res points etc and had enormous fun.

Recently decided I'd like to finish ranking up from Baron so stopped playing around in the Vulture and dusted the Clipper back off, and what an anti-climax having now been in vulture, the handling is pants, it drifts all over the place. Also, to make matters worse, in order to make the trade route I'm currently running in one jump, had to strip off all the weapons and goodies, so I'm back to trying to avoid interdictions/combat, just like being back in the T7.

I know I'm comparing apples and pears a bit, but I have a nasty feeling that, until new ships come out, there are better traders than the clipper, the fuel tank prevents it being a hassle-free explorer, my options when ranking up are limited to no outposts and the Vulture will always beat it for bang-for-buck combat.

Whilst it's undoubtedly the best looking ship in the game, I'm seriously beginning to wonder if the clipper is just the poor man's anaconda? I hope not, I love the ship, just not sure what I'm going to do with it!?

The drifting is awesome for combat. 400m/s backwards is awesome! I love RES in mine. I just got 6M Cr in total trading and 4M of that was yesterday:). Fa off is just amazing. Boost to 400, move throttle to blue are and start turn. Then boost again. Oh the smiles. Fa off, do lateral trust and boost in it.

I buy my clipper on NU and spent 4 mil cr for upgrades ( 5B FDS, 240t cargo hold with 12ly range ( tier 3D shield sux, but its better than nothing)).

Now, I need a good trade route. Anyone?
