Why I love the new legit lucrative mining and pirating gameplay

I love the fact of having access to big bucks from fairly early on. Why do I like this?

It effectively eliminates Big Ship Envy. A condition most CMDRs suffer when they first play the game.

You can access deep core mining in an Adder. From there it doesn't take too long to access the first of the Big Three, the Anaconda. You ain't getting it straight away, and you will still defo need to learn the Elite basics but it is far less of a grind!

I think small ships add far more challenge and generate a wealth of immergant gameplay. Learning to pilot them offers huge rewards for those bothered, especially if you go Flight Assist Off etc. People are still bound to vector straight to the Anaconda but if you can access them without too much grind, you might feel less attached to it and therefore be happy to experiment with the other ships, like ED's fantastic fleet of small and medium vessels.

Anyhoo! My 2 pence.

:)

We somehow got what was advertised: interesting and engaging gameplay. I bet FDEVs are as puzzled by the outcome as we are. And they are trying to figure out what happened.

I approve of your 2 pence, andysonofbob. Your jib has a pleasing cut to it :)

Interesting :) I started a new CMDR at the weekend - was fun working out where to get a few thousand CR from. After a couple of hours* I was in a Cobra Mk3 (intended to be my only ship from now on), then I kitted for mining and now a day later** I have the CR to build 3-4 'A' grade Cobra for Mining / Exploration / AX Combat. So while it's nice, I guess, that people don't have to struggle to get to large ships it does seem quite fast. Now I just need to do some tech broker / engineer unlocks and on to the end-game :D

* I need to investigate if there are early codex finds around the starter system, as that would shrink this part of the game further
** Spend too long checking out Ghost Giraffe's guide to LTD heists - they're not as common as GG made them sound :)

And when they get their big ship, with a bit of luck, the blinkers come off and they realise they are not the be all and end all.

Then they can go back and start to explore all the ships in between.

I have an anaconda. It is a heavily armed freighter and trailer. I'd prefer the T9 but it fails against the endless string of Elite condas that are sent after you on missions.

I have a Cutter. I hardly fly it as it is a terminally dull ship to fly.

I spend far more time in Asps, Kraits and Pythons.

Haha!

I have fixed it. Really didn't mean to cause undue stress.
