My take on this is that the folks trying to defend Salomé etc are probably using the only strategy that they think will work to get the people through alive. Unfortunately they seem to have hired Malcolm Tucker as their PR spokesperson.

It's a good plan, utilising the resources available to them. It's really all they had available to them, and I think they know themselves there's not much difference between asking somebody on Discord whether they are going to kill Kahina, or asking someone whose spaceship is in the vicinity. Having a few whitelisted pilots with guns reduces the chances of treachery, but then they do have the SDC in their midst <shrug>

There could be another ulterior motive by the SDC. "Why don't you all jump in to small defenceless ships and join us over at 46 Eridani? We absolutely promise not to shoot any of you." <grin>

I joined discord, saw that they wanted people to buy imperial eagles or imperial couriers in a specific configuration with specific upgrades, this in itself said "screw you" to any new players who wanted to play because they loved the story, also, with all the complaints since release of the interdiction minigame, then why the hell actually FOCUS on that part as the mainstay of a campaign. Sorry, but i find it as one of the most boring parts of the game, also, the ethic of XYZ VIP dies they die completely, doesnt really go well with the fact that players would be there die come back die come back die .....

A lot of this was very weird in its execution, and really, they have tried to kill off Salome several times already, and one of the bigger points is that she already has a history of changing her ships ID .... basically meaning every last one of these VIP's could just be someone who is now masking ship id in an attempt to confuse attackers (which would have been a lot better event in itself if it could have been done)

All in all, this made the whole fiasco look like 1 big federation/empire black operation to try and keep commanders out of certain parts of space by advertising a fish in a barrel for the bloodthirsty people ....
