Why i'm done with this forum

It's not the opinions of others on ED, which i'm more than mature enough to respect.

It's the reputation system, and some posters who cannot take a well-deserved negative rep in their stride. I don't negative rep people because of their opinion, I do it for person insults, attacks and childish behavior.

The posters who can't handle that, and who go through my post history to 'downrep' me as revenge, is an awful system to have on a forum as it's so ridiculously open to abuse.

I feel like i've been a help to people with advice for mac users/bootcamping, joystick selection, general game issues during beta/gamma and i've even hosted a pre-release elite event at a venue because I really love this game, I just can't get on with this forum anymore - Mods have a hard job and of course don't get a penny from FD so should be given respect, but for a forum with this much activity there should be more of you guys.

Thanks to the good people i've met, cheers to the FD team for all the effort on the game, peace and see you in space :)

I agree, which is why I have never given out negative rep. I think rep should be given for positive stuff where it's warranted, not used to spitefully punish.

Sadly, you are correct:it's a way trolls use to take control of a forum,that's why very few forums implement it

MOAR is BETTER man, you need as much as you can get, just like with 357 892 friends on facebook :D

but yeah... on serious note either just point or no point or simply be done with rep system

who cares about reputation especially when the moderators warn you on the slightest infraction (whether real or imaginary). Go to Reddit, at least there you can complain about down votes :) and not get "warned"

The reputation system in vbulletin boards has been around since forever.

The reputation system is fine the way it is. I get negative repped when I criticize the game all the time. But when I praise the game, even without a shred of fact, I get positive rep. Its not fair, but so what?!? Having a high reputation means absolutely NOTHING. My rep score is probably garbage. Don't care. But I have noticed alot of fanboys here have high reps...gee, I wonder why. Keep it moving dude, your Rep score won't get you anything here on the forum or in the game. Try not to be so thin skinned.

Here's another way to look at it: In real life we have friends that have a far different opinion of a friend both of you share. In your opinion, their views on said friend may be stupid and unfounded (different reputation score for x). Point is, we all don't judge an opinion from someone the same.

If you can't take someones negative opinion about your comments, go back to Facebook where you can only "like" someone.

so your moaning about something that doesn't actually exist...from people you will likely never actually meet face to face..on a virtual system that doesn't actually effect real life....
makes sense to me!

The guys and gals are right, who cares about rep really? And... In fact, maybe negative rep isn't such a bad thing? At least you're making a point that's got somebody fired up! Negative rep is just as important/unimportant (depending on your standpoint) as positive rep.

moderators here are hard at work in their efforts to sensor thought and content out here. Well done mods.

I have to admit that the rep system used on forums always amuses me. I normally disable it entirely and probably will do with this too. I mean, I can understand giving people positive rep for all sorts of reasons, funny comment, useful information, a good argument made etc. But I just don't understand why people feel the need to give negative rep at all... and people give it for the most trivial things. IMO all negative rep does is cause bad feelings. If pushed I would say that people giving negative rep are practicing a kind of snobbery and a very patronising attitude. It's like they are saying "I feel the need to punish you for being... whatever. So here, have some negative opinion and take it like a man... it's for your own good you know. You'll thank me in the end. It hurts me more than..." Oh no wait, that doesn't quite fit but you get the general idea. Who on earth do these people think they are that they think such a patronising and supercilious action is going to earn them anything but contempt? That said though, I DO give negative rep but only to those who REALLY deserve it... those who dish it out in the first place.
