General / Off-Topic Why IS A Download More Expensive Than A Physical Disc?

Now ... I am trying to get stupid Origin to redeem the code, it might not help that I already have 2 of the 3 registered

Looks like the Origin servers are struggling... I've not been able to redeem any codes except for the Steam ones yet. It seems like the Humble Bundle was a marketing ploy to push people towards a newly designed storefront, but EA underestimated demand, like with... erm, you know. That city game.

I can wait ... I won't need the code until the next time I have to reinstall it all.
I am NOT getting Sims 4 (or at least, not straight away)

One thing in Sims 3 that really annoyed me was the "time" seemed to be way out. It does not take an hour to make a sandwich and get to the car.

LOL ... yeah I noticed that too, but you get used to it.
I think it's because in-game they made 1 minute game time = 1 second real time, otherwise it'd take you all day just to get anywhere. Once they had decided that, they were stuck, because they have to have the sim go at a certain speed otherwise they'd zoom through everything and you miss the enjoyment of watching them.

I don't follow this :)o sorry, never played the game). If 1 min game time = 1 sec real time, how does that take an hour to make a sandwich but not take a day to get anywhere? I am confuzzled.

because you tell your sim to make a sandwich, they walk to the fridge, get the stuff out, chop it up, put it in a bowl, give it a stir (yes, even for a sandwich), put it on a plate, walk over to a table, sit down, eat it, get up, take the plate to the sink, wash it up.

And they do that a lot slower in game than you or I would in real life.

Once they get in a car, they zoom about the place. And towns are not to scale. I tried to build my town once, and I literally could not place every street, so I had to place just the main ones, and instead of many houses on the street, I could only fit a few.

Its SIMTASTIC.. i lost HOURS AND HOURS to the sims, I bought my first copy of The Sims In Atlanta US, before its release in the UK. I played it SOLIDLY..

LOVE IT, **** the postman, **** the maid, **** the neighbours, **** anything that moves.. then pets expansions... and start again!! :D

By **** of course I mean Woopee.

It is a great game, and I love it... My kids love the house building side.

Yes the "time" factor really annoyed me. Maybe in Sims 4 it will be fixed. Glad to read it will not be plagued by online only though so with luck I'll be able to just get the physical copy, type in the key and that's it.

I remember playing the very fist of the Sims style called Little Computer People. If your character died you needed to get a new disk from Activision. Check out it's history....quite interesting.

Damn.......have not played Sims 3 in at least 5 months and now I am itching too.......nooooooooooooooooo !!!!

Ok I installed Sims 3 Late Night as I had only installed Ambitions thus far, I got bored with Late Night pretty quickly. I'm used to just being able to walk around in an open world not just with the limitations of zoom and and out all the time...ahh well........I was trying to find some vampires but I walked around at night and saw noooooooooooo one. :( I'll try a little more to become a vampire with luck.....

Ok so then I went and played that City town because I realised this expansion I think only puts Vampires in that new town area........sadly nope.......I saw some celebs but that's about it........

with story progression on, it will put vampires in any town.
Keep playing and meeting people, you will find them.
I know of two ways you could make your sim a vampire without meeting other vampires, but both are slightly cheating (I know a third way, but you'd need Supernatural expansion)
