Why is a "standart" docking computer still NOT standart???

Hi.

Why is the docking computer still not standart in all ships, with the ability to activate or deactivate on demand?

It's insane that u buy a cutter or a corvette without a docking computer and have to sacrifice a size 3 slot to install one....

Pls frontier, make this strandart component a standart!

Why do people have a crave to automate everything?
Because human brains are naturally attracted to laziness.
First we ran around on foot, then we domesticated the horse so the horse could walk for us, then we invented the carriage because it was too much work to ride a horse, then we added a coachman because it was too much work to drive the carriage, then that got too slow for us so we invented the car, then we invented the car with a chauffeur, then we invented cars with cruise control, then cruise control with radar to auto-slow and speed up, and now we're in the process of making automatic driving cars.

Humans. Are. Lazy. :)

Also, I don't believe OP is being lazy - it's not a unheard of request to make the DC built-in to the ship. Whilst my car has the ability to park itself, I didn't have to sacrifice anything to have it put in.

People have been asking to have the DC made into a built-in component for a long time; there's no good reason why not to.

Why the upset over ONLY the docking computer being non-standard? Can’t you make the same kind of argument for ANY module? Why have custom outfitting at all?
People are upset over a lot of things. :p
For some, I believe, not having the DC standard is akin to having to take up a slot to install your radar. It doesn't make any sense; so like the radar, make it standard in the ship - instead of forcing players who can't/don't want to land manually to sacrifice a slot.

It's not an unreasonable request imho.

Yes you did. The self parking system requires sensors all round the car, solenoids to control steering and throttle, computer to control all of the systems. This takes up space and cost extra when the car was new.

you know I have been playing all this time without ever even selecting on in the menu, let alone using one... takes the skill out of flying. ;)

Same goes for Torpedos, Mines, ECM, AFMU and a couple other modules I have NEVER used in 3 years :D

If they give everyone a docking computer I will never land again. I will stay in space until I get bored and then stop playing. Until then if I see anyone in open with a docking computer I will take it out, and their shield generator, and bring them to 4% hull.

I'd be annoyed if it kept trying to take over my landings for me. It's the best part!

I do all sorts of odd things.

Docking Computers would take my fun away.

Also, to some people, that'd put everyone on their KOS list!

I meant something more substantial; like .. boot space. :p

I guess it is a relict from the old Elite games, when docking or approaching planets actually was supposedly pretty challenging.

Not. The entrance was always opposite to the planet. Besides, the AI in those days was barely an A, the I was nowhere to be found. Sometimes the thing couldn't figure out where things were and docking would last an eternity. I started docking myself because of it.

I suggested adding a class 1 slot to every ship in the game to take care of this what three years ago! It of course never happened. I guess the balance Police at Frontier didn't approve it. Still adding that slot to an engineered Imperial Courier with an expert pilot could make a bad day for other players. ED us not what one flies but how well they fly it.

Hells Bells, the original Elite had limited visual cues and a low frame rate, so a docking computer was a blessing.

With the current visual fidelity in E: D there is no excuse to need one, landing is a major part of the game and one of the few things that takes a modicum of skill.

What next for the 'Lets dumb it down brigade' automated planetary landings?

It's exists as a separate module so that the people that acknowledge/are completely oblivious to the fact most aspects of this game are utterly can tell you how they don't need it and how proud they are for never equipping and that you should feel bad for bringing it up again for the millionth time with this thread

ED will introduce an new Auto-Play Computer Module. Installing one engages a live stream from an NPC ship that you can watch and pretend it's you while you gain credits for it's actions.

Now that is a personal narrative.
