Why is Frontier afraid of primates?

I feel like with leaving the Hamadryas baboon out of the Arid Animal Pack and there being only a single new world representation, the capuchin monkey, Frontier's animal team seems to have this weird aversion to primates?

All I can ask is why?

Primates are hugely popular in zoos, and many zoos house several species of primate, especially monkeys.

I think some reptiles (like the sulacata tortoise) and birds are also avoided in such a way. I guess it's harder to code but come on, we're paying money for all of this, I feel we deserve it

I'm just gonna state that we don't deserve anything, because it's Frontier's project, so they can do whatever they want. We aren't obligated to pay for something.

It could come down to many things. Maybe they aren't fully aware about the wants for monkeys, tortoises, and birds for whatever reason.

Maybe some are difficult to make/code, such as feathers or behavior.

Maybe they wanna improve the climbing system, so they are rejecting primates until it's better.

It could be anything, really

ok, while I'll openly admit the title of this thread was kinda awful, I do wish Frontier were a bit more open with us on certain things

I'll also admit a lot of this is me being salty af over the lack of baboon in the newly announced DLC

Man baboons are scary. No wonder frontier is afraid, we all should.
Vaguely humanoid shape? Furry? Long dog like snout? Ferocious teeth? Thats basicly a werewolf!
Fr tho, I've told people who were designing werewovles "bro, just use old world monkeys"

What are you talking about? There are 12 primate species in the game right now?
Well, we have:

  1. Red ruffed lemur
  2. Black-and-white ruffed lemur
  3. Ring tailed lemur
  4. Western lowland gorilla
  5. Western chimpanzee
  6. Bonobo
  7. Bornean orangutan
  8. Siamang
  9. Lar gibbon
  10. Mandrill
  11. Japanese macaque
  12. Proboscis monkey
  13. Colombian white-faced capuchin

See I feel like we're fine on apes but we're lacking....

A few unique lemurs like the sifaka

A lot of different monkeys, especially the New World kinds

I think it is important to express monkeys is what we need. Not primates in general.

Great apes almost got the big cat treatment.
Lesser apes are fine represented with 2 species since most of the species are rather similar and covers the same areas.

Within lemurs there is a decent amount of diversity to cover, but 3 species seems alright since they are all from the same island. Getting more species might be nice, but is not important.

But when it comes to monkeys we have barely touched the surface, and are far behind when it comes to reaching a satisfying representation.

If we keep saying primates instead of monkeys then we risk ending up with a 2nd orangutan, a 3rd gibbon and a 4th lemur and that won't get us anywhere.

Fine on apes? There basicly arent any left to add :D

Yeah i would still welcome the sifaka and aye aye.
In an ideal world we would get like a baboon, 3 african, 3 asian and like 8 south american ones but that aint gonna happen.

Totally agree. Primates aren't lacking nor is Frontier "afraid of them". Birds? Maybe lol. But monkeys are what we are lacking, and in a bad way. Mostly of the New World variety. And obviously we are lacking New World variety in just about every region except temperate North America. But also Old World monkeys are lacking pretty badly too. Some of the more common monkeys I've seen in the states are

Black Howler Monkey
Golden Lion Tamarin
Emperor Tamarin
Cotton-top Tamarin
Saki Monkey
Squirrel Monkey
Black and White Colobus
De Brazza's Monkey
Hamadryas Baboon
Wolf's Guenon
Allen's Swamp Monkey
Francois Langur

I’m pretty cross about not getting baboons with this dlc. Not only am I not happy with the fact that it’s not multi continent, but it’s 5/7 ungulates.
I personally don’t want anymore lemurs.
We got the great apes covered.
Siamangs did not meet expectations, lar gibbons were highly requested yet after the addition and disappointment of siamangs there was little want for them anymore. While the Lars are pretty and brachiation more, I still feel they don’t do the lar gibbon justice.
There’s a lot of potential with monkeys of all types. Could use old and or new rigs. Even if they reskin current monkeys, it would mean alot to us just to have some more monkey representation.
Not saying I don’t want anymore ungulates, but not from africa and not to take priority of other animal types.

i dont really care either way... i like smaller new world monkeys...
but the rest are.... unsettling.
I have quite the aversion to most primates:cautious: (THE BEST PRIMATE EVER IS THE GOLDEN SNUB NOSED MONKEY, PROVE ME WRONG)

For all my love of tamarins, even I know that a lot of people find monkeys a bit eerie, but if they or especially their young are active, I see many crowds of people gather to watch them. I was more afraid of them as a kid. Now they are just kind of interesting. I think they are difficult and maybe the previous monkeys haven't been well received? I often hear people complain about the capuchin or the (somewhat understandably) odd choice in the proboscis monkey. I don't think this is born from a hatred of monkeys, though; I see it as frustration by the absence important and well-loved species.

I really hope the devs don't get discouraged and give up on monkeys entirely. They are lovely zoo animals and could add life to the game. My hope is, as others here have said, they are trying to fix the climbing before adding the monkeys and then having to fix them again (and field complaints all along the way). Please add some monkeys, Frontier! To me, they are the most notable habitat animal absence. Even with the current, somewhat strange climbing behaviors, I would still love them.

From SA: Squirrel, Spider, Howler monkeys, and tamarins would do a lot to fix the gap
From Africa: A colobus, baboon, and at least one guenon would be wonderful
From Asia: Something from India and the Chinese conservation icon, the Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey would be amazing
Even Europe has its Barbary Macaque

There are so many great choices that I would love to see!

The primates I would like to see in future are the following:

C and SA: Geoffroy's Spider Monkey, Common/Black-Capped Squirrel Monkey, Tufted Capuchin, Golden Lion/Cotton-Top Tamarin, Pygmy Marmoset, Black Howler, White-Faced Saki

AFR: De Brazza's Monkey, Mantled Guereza, Vervet Monkey, Wolf's Guenon, Black Crested Mangabey, Central Chimpanzee, Aye-Aye, Coquerel's Sifaka, Gelada, Hamadryas Baboon

Asia: Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey, Rhesus Macaque, Douc Langur, Pygmy Slow Loris, White-Cheeked Gibbon, Sumatran Orangutan, Francois Langur

and the Barbary Macaque too

Yeah I think the general thing is that we need more monkeys

The only lemur I'm really craving is the sifaka due to it's unique movement and Zoboomafoo

All we’ve learned by now is that speculation is largely pointless. Having said that, I will jump right into speculation and daydream about a Primate Pack.
