why is frontier not giving new ships for horizons player for free

seriously, frontier is so greedy, i was really excited for all the new ships, but there not giving them out for free. horizons players cant get it without paying money, and you need oddysey to pay for credits, i was so excited for mandalay, and i thought "they cant make all the ships cost money" but no. now frontier is greedy, and to get cool brand new ships, you have to pay money to the game you already have. this is the problem with non-indie games, so many greedy and money hungry game devs/publishers, and the only games that dont have in game purchases and stuff like that are indie games, but this is the only game like it, so no. no cool new ships. great job. maybe if they were not doing things liek they are now, they wouldnt be losing so much money.

They have people to pay every month. Hence the need to monetise the game. If you want the new content, pony up the money.
but did they use to do this? no. one of the reasons there losing money is because they are ruining the game

Anybody not buying Odyssey (at least when it is on sale) is not thinking economically. The money spent for it plus some month waiting out that ARX EA is really neglectable in relation to buying the content with ARX or not having it at all. You can see the ARX EA as pathetic money grab all you want, but the fact that the now cheap DLC is bringing a lot of content for its price doesn't go away.
I think trying to shame FDev into giving the ships out for free for the base game players will not work out.

yes but horizons is now free, and i dont think odyssey ever will, considering the state frontier is in...

Horizons was folded down into the base game in October 2020, so base game owners gained access to Horizons ships at that point. It is no longer available separately and new players who buy the base game receive Horizons as part of the game.

yes exactly thats what im saying, anyways why is frontier doing this
It isn’t free it is around £15 now and is sold as Elite Dangerous Standard edition.

The Deluxe version packaged with Odyssey is £21.

So for less than the price of a single ship you could buy Odyssey and get all 3 (to date) ships for credits.

Elite is a live service game that has been constantly expanded and developed during the last 10 (!!!) years. I paid three times in a decade of playing.

The rest was for free.
This time around you only pay twice (and they can't fold down Odyssey into the main game because of different age ratings, by the way.)

Doesn't sound greedy to me.
