Why is it always medium?

It's not actually a suprise that, it seems, the longer people play, the more they gravitate back to flying medium or even small ships. Totally reliable source: Me. I got over my Corvette phase somewhat quickly, and the Viper IV became my daily driver until the CV arrived. And these days I even do CZs in the V.

The Corvette’s always been my go-to for conflict zones, just because the NPCs are so tanky. Lately though I’ve been switching the Python 2 or even Corsair as their firepower is almost as good but they are so much more fun to fly.

Oh you have to try a V for funsies. I promise this is in no way a brag or git-gud post as I am the first to admit I am a crap pilot, but my V isn't even a combat optimized one, and it totally rocks low CZs. I've had good success in medium and minor success in high ones, but you have to be caraful a bit in the latter to not get ganged up upon.

The V is nasty - mine isn't called "Rabbit of Caerbannog" for nothing. This is she - basically a multipupose mission runner PP build. It is so nimble and fun to fly, and the guns aren't too bad either - I run it with three Concord Cannons and either two MCs or two Cytos. For high CZs to be more "comfortable", or just plain as a combat optimized build, I'd probably have to up the shields a class and lose the mission running optional crap 😁.

I have proved many times that those ships are not necessarily invincible against PvE content even when ignoring your exceptions.

Of course that might not be the case with a better pilot/different build etc.

And no I don’t want build or piloting suggestions but thank you.
Gladly insert unwanted piloting suggestions anyways here :ROFLMAO:

Obviously that was a bit hyperbole, but engineering has done much more damage to "balance" than any OP big ship could ever do (unrealistic shenanigans like Farraguts excluded)

Wouldn’t doubt it, it’s my go to as an Odyssey runner. It’s basically a medium ship in terms of loadout. It’s awesome!

So, how do they deal with large ships and a set size mail slot and landing pads?

Trying to enlarge slots and pads would be a MAJOR effort, I'd say not doable, so what are the alternatives?

Park outside a station and a station services ship comes to you? Hmmm.

Or maybe introduce a new type of station for extra-large ships?

Quite the corner they have backed themselves into! :sneaky:
Anything larger would be like the bulk cargo ships or parts of the flotillas you see around squadron carriers, which could be neat, but would probably need a design overhaul. Gotta pick them up from more open shipyard type things...

Maybe sorta like that, I dunno. Then you shuttle over cargo to stations, or contract it out, whatever.

Introduce an XL ship that has a shuttle bay capable of housing an Eagle, Sidewinder or Hauler. With a hired crew member these can be used as ship launched fighters, or at space stations you can use them as shuttles while your hireling parks the ship in a reserved parking zone at the back of the station.

If you have no craft aboard or no hireling you can request executive shuttle transport provided by the station. This consists of you jettisoning yourself in an escape pod to be scooped by a taxi Hauler.

You've made me imagine a FAOFF Farragut movement :D

Technically speaking, Fleet Carriers is exactly that, minus direct controls and NPC crew.
