Just to add my few cents:

There is a bug present with the platform docking. If you request landing multiple times (because it can get busy out there),
the game bugs out and won't show you the radar or let you "clamp" down. Simple solution is just to fly off, cancel docking, and try again.

Annoying, but not the end of the world.

It can happen even if you requested only once.
When that happens, I land then cancel/request again quicky. On small station, it will often give you the same number so you will dock right away. If not, you better fly away ASAP...

Trust us when we say, once you've done it just 2 or 3 times, you'll think to yourself...."Why was I making this out to be so hard??"

Personally I use the thrusters religiously (left/right/up/down) when I'm landing. I've mapped mine to my thumbhat on my joystick.

I wish I could see externally how bad ass I look now when I come swooping in from odd angles and land my ship! THIS is why I want an external view in the game.

As others suggested...do the training tutorial as many times as you need to to get the hang of it. It's free if you loose the ship. No harm, no foul.

Report back to us on your progress. It is frustrating but you WILL get the hang of it.

BTW...what are you using to fly your ship? Mouse/keyboard, joystick, gamepad?

Wonder if any of this constructive and logical info helped the OP...since he is deathly silent.
If you think landing is impossible watch a few YT vids on high speed landing with flight assist off...Itll make ur week.
BTW-the manual is now available for download, I suggest a read.

If the pad doesn't have the alignment beeping thingy you are either not close enough or at the wrong one...

I've not seen it for a week or so, but since Gamma I was plagues by landing pads that were the wrong way around (having to land facing the angled deflector). When this happens, the beeping visual landing aid does not display.

While we're on the subject, I often don't see the orange landing box/pad number helper. When that happens, remember your compass (upper left of the scanner) points to the landing pad. Bear in mind that if you're on approach to a static platform (as opposed to a rotating station) your designated pad might be out of sight on the other side of the platform.

I'm OK at landing, almost pro. I tend to hit "boost" instead of "down thrusters". Managed to survive last night even though I smacked into the pad control tower with shields down.

Some of the pad does not have the beeping thingy just make sure you are align.

I've come across a bug that happened a couple of times, and I finally got it recorded. Even with permission to land, sometimes the game resets the pad and you can't dock until you cancel the request and send a new request right away.
