Ships Why is the Cobra so Edgy?

I don't think the Cobra originally was meant to be edged, that was just a cause of low polygon graphics back in the time

I would like to have a "round version"

Same may probably count for the other ships like the sidewinder.

Is it really all the nostalgia that kept us stepping away from the original intention?

I was 6 or 7 when I got my first C 64 and still now at over 37 years of age I still get all fuzzy and warm inside just by looking at C 64 graphics. :_)
I miss that old little hero- and the Emulator on my phone doesn't even get close to the real thing.

On topic: No idea.
Did I already say I love C 64 graphics?

Budget cuts.
There had to be compromises to make the lore-rich, jack-of-all-trades legendary ship to be sold at the <400K price point, yes?

Why would you have to work with rounded panels on a spaceship ?
Edgy design is far better for production and maintenance cost efficiency, are easy to change and repair, specially when you talk about armor.

Original designs were fare more futurist as are actual, specially the imperial design which is really retro-futurist.

I like edgy.
I think they should call the edgy version the Cobro.
And they could call the round version the Cobra.

I thought about this too, Frontier could make "alternate" models of various ships. Basically with the same parameters and same weapon locations. Thats something they could sell in their store. Everyone having bought it could when buying a ship choose the Visual design Variant.

Try CCS64 - pretty close to the real thing on your PC.

For the same reason that (wet) ships and aeroplanes have rounded corners on windows and doors. Sharp edges and corners especially focus any flexing, twisting or warping forces in the structure and tend to fatigue rapidly.
