Why is there vr drift?!

This has been bugging me for a long time. No other game in vr for the vive has drift but elite can get all sorts of out of whack after playing for a bit causing a user to race to reset the hmd orientation. THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN. No other game does this, steam vr provides absolute positioning, not relative positioning, the cockpit should be fixed in our play space. This causes utility apps like ovrdrop to drift relative to the cockpit over time as the cockpit drifts but the ovr window stays absolutely fixed.

This really needs to be addressed, resetting my hmd often really ruins the immersion.

Unless your cockpit chair is bolted to the ground, I can see where absolute positioning could be a problem. I usually set my position maybe once a play session, and don't have to monkey with it again (I have a Vive btw). Sometimes I've had some strangeness caused by the floor position, so using steamvr advanced settings plugin to reset that with the controllers once in a while can help prevent that.

Perhaps it is a vive only thing then but no other game I have has such drift. I would prefer to have my cockpit fixed in my playspace so I never even have to reset it, and thus always have my ovr drop window positioned the same relative to my cockpit.

The only times I've ever had to reset my headset position after the first time is when I get up to explore my cockpit, or when I get rather vigorous with my controls.

Like Max Factor, my chair is on wheels, but I have a DIY PVC pipe HOTAS stand, which usually keeps me in place, but there are definitely certain situations (combat, racing) where my movements are energetic enough to not only move my chair but the whole dang stand as well. The movement usually isn't much, but after a rare long session, it can add up to be noticeable.

As per the above reply's, no drift without chair movement, Vive user.

Maybe once per session, usually after I have changed gameplay, ie; long travel to stop and fight.

Not a solution per se, but you can map the reset HMD to a keyboard/controller input so you don't have to go out of your way to fix it.

As I said "Nor Me" but I have to do it when my game starts up, I have made a command in VA so I only have to say "Center head"
