Ships Why is this ship so good. YET So bad (My Thoughts on it)

So I have had this odd...lets say odd...love affair with the Keelback. It looks awesome basically a meaty T-6. It handles so poorly tho yet it does quite well in combat. Its shielding is meh and so is its hull...yet its good for its size (hard to believe its a med class ship...). However its out turned by just about anything and handles like a seal in molasses but it is still my one of if not my favorite fighter capable ships. More so then the Krait.

My Keelback atm is my PvE ship of choice. It runs 2 Efficient PA's and 2 LR rail guns with Feedback. the biweave and one HD booster only nets me 271 MJ but good resistance so it holds up quite well TBH. I Run missions in it go to Combat Zones HAZ REZ even mega ship defense in this boat and it never fails me. I wish it handled more like the T6 however it would be quite potent then maybe a bigger distro but I am so glad it has that 4 Power Plant. If it had the T6 Speed\Handling I would use it for Thargoids but atm I can't survive a Thargoid CZ in it or deal with many scouts at once. I can solo the Cyclops and Basilisk in it tho but its hard to outrun the thargoid..

I feel like this is one of the better looking Lakon ships Up there with the DBX. Its Industrial look clean sharp edges and modular design makes it in my option quite the looker. I often catch myself siting in third person just watching it fly...

Love my keelback !

Given your Keelback specs perhaps the Clipper would be the next step up. Engineered that's class 3 PAs and class 2 Rail Guns, 493/625 boost, 2034 mj, 38 LY jump range with GFSD, and very maneuverable.

The downside is weapons convergence on the engine nacelles but a good pilot can deal with this. No problem with the long range Rail Guns mounted below. I may just try this myself. Heck with ED ships we never get something without losing something else.

I love the Keelback too. Most folks seem to dismiss it, and that's reason enough right there.

But with such an expansive fleet, each of my ships needs a role. If it doesn't have one, I don't need it in the fleet. So I have carved out niches for each of them.

The Keelback isn't going to be my first choice for exploration ship, trader or combat ship. But it does have a role, Planetary Lander.

I find it's perfect loaded with a SLF and SRV. I use it when I need to gather raw materials, or want to explore a planet's surface or for canyon joyrides in the fighter. It's named Stumpjumper and I've become rather fond of it because it performs an important role and does it well.
