Horizons Why is this still a thing?

I came down in a large city in the surface of a planet and for the first time a decided that I would go and see what was inside the city with my SRV. I went around admiring the size of the constructions built by civilisation and how everything was well organized,I also imagined how it would be if there were more care put to into and there were NPC traffic, more roads, roads/airways that would connect cities within a single planet, how it would be to run around there with my space legs shooting down commanders/NPCs if a war broke out. I had a lot of ideas and was amazed by the possibilities and vistas, but the problem was when I decided to go back to my ship, arriving at the ship bays and proceding to the one I had left my ship I came down a very serious problem, there was no way to board the ship again, I couldn't figure out what was wrong and why it didn't let me, then after much struggle I just self-destructed and bought a new one. After a quick research I learned that in order to board you need to ask docking request to the settlement and that is completely not intuitive, why would anyone think that I should ask for docking request to the station AGAIN to board my ship that is already docked, so I realized if there is ever going to be these things I imagened put into the cities first we gotta make things more streamline, more intuitive and more simple until then none of this is going to become true. BTW can we change this boarding system? It makes no sense whatsoever.

Here is a screenshot I took while in my brief visit:

You just have to ask for docking permission, while in your SRV, just like you normally would when in your ship. Then it will direct you to a garage. Just drive in, and you can board your ship from there. That's how it's always worked.

I know, that's what I just wrote there on the thread, the thing is that there is nowhere telling you that you have to do that, it is not intuitive so that is not a normal conclusion most people would come to, it's just a nuisance and anything that is in a game that should be common things to do but you have to go to the internet find a solution this thing is definately not right.

That happened to me in the beginning. Nothing telling you to get docking permission. I was literally lost trying to find the place I drove out of thinking I had to find the same place to get back in.

Yup Cryvern, that one got lots of us in the first few weeks of Horizons. But it is also why I love elite. There is no hand holding, it is not as hardcore as DCS world where my brother has to do 80 pre-flight checks before he takes off but it is also not so simple that it feels lame.
For me it is the right mix.
Nice screen shot by the way, have some rep.

I'm not in the first weeks of gameplay, I'm playing the game for over 3 years, scarcely until some 6 months ago. And yes that was the first time I actually decided to roll around with my SRV inside a city. I don't know if this whole situation just exarcebates my dumbness or if it is just too incovenient of a system.

No it is not you who is dumb. It's something you either read in the forums (which are outside the game, of course) or learn the hard way.

Maybe the CODEX in Q4 will solve this problem, maybe it won't.

Anyway, an excellent photo +1.

ED does have a consistent problem with conveyance. There are a great many things that a player will simply never find out for themselves because the game doesn't care to mention them, point them out, or even leave the barest hint that they might exist. Fdev has no concept of bread crumbs and their menu navigation leaves EVERYTHING to be desired too. A vast majority of the menus need redesigned, badly, or at the very least we need the ability to rearrange our interface a bit to our liking. It's 2018 IRL; there's no excuse for horrible, frustrating menu navigation.
