Why no communication?

Simple question. Does anyone know why Frontier dropped off the map since the 7th or thereabouts?

I'm looking at their most common forms of communication - Facebook, Twitter and the forums - and I've not noticed any activity in about a week. Before anyone suggests that they are simply too busy to be bothered by such things it's not a response that floats - they have community managers after all. I think it's a safe assumption that this is a policy of silence (for whatever reason) and one that I think has been damaging to some extent. It seems to me that some official communication (it doesn't have to be much) would go a looooooong way to allaying fears and reducing the discontent that has been growing lately.

Discuss.

(A response from the Frontier would be ever better.)

As far as i have seen they don't even respond to less urgent tickets anymore. I guess they will remain silent and then BOOOOM at the omega release day we get a flood of information and stuff like that.

But i wonder why no one of them is keeping the main website up to date since late october.

Who knows. It's been my experience in beta's that they start blacking out a week or two before a 'soft launch'.
Maybe they panicked at the forum response and are huddled somewhere in meetings trying to figure out what to do next?
I like the game but there is a growing Chorus of folks with legitimate concerns.
Guess will know on the 22nd..

There is a similar thread on the Elite Dangerous reddit site - http://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDanger..._company_with_2_dedicated_community_managers/

Edwards response from that thread is:

"I'm always here if you've got any questions - elewis@frontier.co.uk - I'll always PM back on the forums too. ... it's all hands on deck here with marketing and PR, there are only two of us dealing with both press and community. Once we've settled in we will know what we can and can't say we'll get much more vocal.
As far as upping the communication goes, I'll give it my best shot. We're arranging a premiere, handling social media, and organising press for a massive video game launch. There's no point me saying 'we can't comment on that at the moment' over and over again on the forums and on Reddit I prefer to let the community do what they do best and be an amazing community. Nobody likes adverts on Reddit, so I'm not prepared to start spamming it with promotional material. I am always watching though ;)"

I suspect they are
a) busy, they have pushed out 5 releases in 13 days
b) not bothering to respond to the same old threads started time and time again (It's not ready, why no communication) - what could they contribute? "yes it is ready"?

They have been replying to some message on Twitter certainly. I imagine that they're all far too focused on making sure that everything in house is running smoothly because, at this point, that is far more important than trying to quiet the current discontent a vast majority of which is coming from people who have been signed up for less that 2 weeks.

Although Azdour's post sums it up quite well.

Not at all surprising that they are busy with other things at this time besides the online community.

I absolutely want it as well, but I suppose it's not a main priority at all.

Like, when you think about it, they gotta work on the whole out of ship experience :)

Only six days gone, I think we better phone the police and list them as hi-jacked by the thargoids. What exactly are you afraid of and assume everyone else is in fear and discontent? I've been having a wonderful time playing Elite Dangerous and live streaming. Of all the commanders I have talked to, none relay anything of this nature.

Shok.

That seems reasonable enough - but only insofar as the community manager's hands are tied by some upper management decision. Why this decision was made in the first place seems to me to be both a mystery and also mistake.

Keeping the online community sweet is surely a big part of making a commercially successful game and whatever our personal opinions are on the future of the game, I would think we all agree that there has been a lot of negativity around here of late. I get that there will be reactionary types (righteous indignation can be a form of entertainment in and of itself) but surely Frontier realise that at least some people would have been placated by a simple tweet or whatever.

In the face of weekly newsletters, you ask why there hasn't been any communication in the last 5 or 6 days?

1) There has been a weekend!
2) last time I checked a week consists of 7 days.

Shok, I'm glad that you are having a good time but what exactly is the point of your response? I did not express my fears, I did not state that other people are about to disconnect and I did not comment on player's satisfaction levels with the game. Rather, I asked if anyone knew why Frontier have been silent since the announcement of the release date in the face of growing discontent. I then went on to contend that this silence has been damaging in some form or another.

Now if you have something to add to my OP then I'm all ears. But if you are going to set up strawmen and knock them down I'm not interested in having a discussion with you.

Ed Lewis posted on the forums today and I've seen Tweets and Facebook posts in the last two days.

So, if all they've neglected is their website, I don't think it's any kind of "ominous sign"...

Panic over.

And...

c) laying around the office, hands on stomachs, groaning and moaning after eating too much pizza

:D
