Newcomer / Intro Why no reward on some Wanted kills? Bounty Hunting

Hi guys

Spend ages helping to grind down Wanted anacondas, excited about the reward, only to find a lot of the time there is none. I'm guessing this is other players getting in more damage or the last bit of damage, how does it work? I'm in a Viper with burst and pulse lasers.
Thanks for any tips/info, as it's frustrating me so much I feel like switching to solo, but really don't want to. Saving for an ASP as want to go exploring some

it's a bug. it can happen even if it was just you alone vs. the Anaconda alone, and with nobody else around who might have claimed the kill.

thankfully it's usually rare but i did have it happen three times in a row once.

Thanks clivewil. How does it work though normally, when the bug doesn't come into play. Does the bounty get shared amongst all players giving damage, or is it first to hit, last to hit, how does it work? Cheers,
