Been playin since release and something ive always wondered (if anyone knows the answer) is why is there no type 8? goes from 6/7 to 9....

IMO, Type 8 had a factory recall.
The type 8 was abandoned due to a design flaw in the pilots.
type 8 was Lakons first attempt at a hybride hauler, using a mix of battery and hydrogen fuel technology.... the project was scrapped when it was found duracell never made batteries in the correct classes
they had a German guy as head of the ship design team, when asked if they should start work on the type 8 he said 'nein' so they did that one instead

They designed the Lakon 8 but no one realised it resembled a giant phallus until the galaxy-wide televised event where the Federation President was supposed to launch it was heard to say "now look, I will do a lot of things for votes, but I am NOT being seen touching up a giant ....is that microphone LIVE?"
