Why not buff the eagle just a little bit?

Personally I feel like ship customisation needs to have more to it. For example, have .5 classes. What I mean by that is, you have 3x small hardpoints on an Eagle. On this particular ship, at a very high tech or exclusive station, have the ability to introduce this new pioneering technology into your Eagle and expand one of your class 1 hardpoints into a class 1.5 hardpoint. Make it very expensive. FD have missed a trick here. I understand that FD wants some form of ship progression, but what if I want to sink 5 million credits into making an Eagle basically unrecognisable as an Eagle?

I think the Eagle is fine as it is. It's always been the cheap combat ship. I'd support a more upscale fighter. Something with a similar cockpit to the Eagle but priced like the Viper. More agile than the Viper but also more lightly armed and armoured.

I'd like to see it's speed increased for boosting but not for high speed acrobatics. I think this could play out with the blue zone always being lower down on the speedometer bar. As for the price dilemma - make its thrusters more expensive.

Eagles is to Sidewinder as Viper is to Cobra. The problem is the eagle is not significantly better in terms of combat, in any way, over the sidewinder, but the sidewinder has more overall multi-role utility. It would be nice if the eagle was clearly a better fighter for those who want to take that route in the early game. However I should comment that after I deleted save and restarted with my Freagle, I found it very difficult to progress in the game without at least 4T cargo installed to take some trade missions. There just isn't much combat mission content when you first get started.

The only buff the Eagle needs is top speed buff.

I agree - all ships Cobra and below should have equal top speed IMO. I'm happy to be at a disadvantage in an Eagle against a Viper (shields, hull, firepower), but don't let him run away (or chase me down) any time he likes.

I prefer my Eagle in combat over my Viper. In a dogfight, I'll take the maneuverability over speed or firepower. A beam laser on top, two multi-cannons underneath, military grade armor and a point defense turret for incoming missiles. I'd take on just about any Viper or Cobra with me Eagle.

+1 to just a top speed buff.

Im pretty sure I would fly the eagle exclusively if it had just a 10-20 buff to its top speed while kitted for combat. Weapons do not need a buff on it I think they are fine as is.
With a buff to speed then it would not need a buff to shields and hull since it could more easily stay in the blind spot of the bigger ships.
As it is its just too slow to be used in combat of any sort.

You would have to be carefull not to buff it too high though. It would be far too powerfull if it was as fast as a viper for instance. Maybe a top speed just shy of the cobra, with the boost speed of the viper might work.

I wish they'd make more expensive versions of the eagle and viper costing like 6 - 12 mil allowing you to upgrade them in better ways. This would rule out the starter ship argument. Hell I'd like an eagle that cost as much as a type 7 if I could fit a much larger power plant in it and run with some decent gear.

Eagle is a switch blade. Light, easy to handle and quick. The pleasure in it is to use those advantages to turn the tables on ships who get too complacent.

Most of the points in this thread are true; however, wait till more ships come into the game then it wont seem so bad.
