Why not to implement AIML or similar bot in to chat?

AIML is an Artificial intelligence Markup Language simple to learn and there are even tools for programming it.
I found this thing long time ago in A.L.I.C.E foundation site as i am a developer myself interested in artificial intelligence.
And i am thinking... It could be very simple to implement this thing into chat with NPC's.
This could work like: NPC is starting conversation (as always) "give me your cargo" bla bla.. but user will respond and thus make actual conversation with NPC.
What are you guys thinking about that idea?

BTW i made chatbot myself long time ago: http://www.projektudarbnica.lv/vaic/ (written n Delphi) so i know how these chatbot things work.
I can even participate on developing this. But that is different topic.

I think it could be cool if we could chat with NPC's. At least for someone. :)

I'd like something like that but it should also affect the actual NPC behavior for it to make sense. I know it makes it a lot harder to implement but think about this scenario:

NPC: You made your last jump!
You: What? Why?
NPC: You have something I want, all that tasty cargo!
You: What? you idiot! I don't have anything, my hold is empty!
NPC: Well, sorry for interrupting then, my bad...
You: Thanks for understanding, please don't kill me! Dude, stop shooting!
NPC: I'm not shooting, what are you talking about (blasting rails)
You: Hey! WTH ARE YOU DOING?!! My shields! OH, I'M LOSING HULL!
NPC: I don't understand what that means what is WTH? I don't know HULL. (switched to multicannons now)
You: GFY

While the programming may not be all that difficult, what about the different languages, not to mention the different ways individuals phrase things, that seems like a complex issue to me.

You know what'll actually happen if that gets introduced?

It'll learn from people swearing at it & talking about the Holocaust / Hitler / Racism etc.

Then it'll respond rather like that Microsoft twitter bot did...

As funny as that would be it would have the potential to get FD into a shed load of trouble if it started doing that.
