WHY O WHY

When I get messages in the top bar, the ones on my system I have to Hit '2' then scholl over with another button to the messages then select another button to open them. Yes another button to KILL them the message that is.

So Why can I not allocate a Button, Keystroke ect to just open that bit of the menu.

I had sixteen messages in that bar and it is a real pain to kill em!

Can We just have a button assignment to turn off The AutoPilock sometimes I like to do it manual. I know I can sect the power options then shut it off But again a Right Pain.

I suppose it is Fdev In love with the menus...

There are improvements for 2.4 .... unless my Beta experience has been a freak of memory

I could say the same for requesting docking... It dumb having bured in a couple of menus... A simple key assignment would be a lovely QoL improvement!

Agreed! Rep++ I use Voice Attack to request docking and currently it requires a complicated script to step through the menus. Due to timing and menu state issues, the macro script doesn't always work. It's a real pain, especially when it accidentally triggers supercruise, instead of requesting docking.

If you have a keyboard that allows programming macros... that works well.

I've used VA myself for docking, with careful timings it does work well. Not tried running macros though. But the point is... We shouldn't have to...

Way back in the 1840s, when the game came out, I remember my first reaction was horror at the interface. I'm used to it now, and to play devil's advocate, all the crazy button pressing does sort of reflect how spaceships are flown in movies by Han Solo etc...

Auto-pillock. I fear many commanders would be unable to conceive playing without this... :D

Sir (or madam) , the reason Pilock rather than Pilot is when My Vette auto docks sometimes it rams the station. Oh dear.

I have just Purchased a Second Copy Of ED so I can start from scratch without loosing the Admiral status and the Vette. But what a breath of freash air it has taken me 18 Hours to get the ASP. Fully kitted with A kit. Working towards the Python and a Beluga. I am going to go the Empire route and Cutter will be the aim. But we shall see. The reson for the Post is I noticed on setting the new profile some of the Inadequacies of the assignment procedure and it would be easier to make an XML editor for the task. Or indeed has someone done it ?

Absolutely. Common actions shouldn't be buried deep in menus, requiring significant interaction: Press and hold UI button, left, right, right, down, select, select, (then left, left, release UI button - to restore menu state for next invocation). Blech!

There really should be a keyboard binding for Request Docking, even if it's not assigned a key by default.

Are there not other threads with this type of discussion ? Or have I opened a CAN of Worms?

Common theme with legit gripes:

1. Post gripe
2. Someone says "buy more hardware"
3. Someone says "will be fixed in future updates"
4. Someone suggests you spend time creating a work around.

There are a ton of switches in the game, but only so many on the keyboard/mouse/HOTAS. The game isn't "fun" enough for long enough (to me) to justify investing that much time programming voice attack and keyboard macros just for that game. I don't use the DC, I don't read the incoming messages. I just ignore them. If you could turn them off, I wouldn't look for the button for that either. The game is very arcade like, flashy words popping up and messages every few seconds about losing or gaining rep, and every mission the exact same warning about pirates and route changes and requests for timed delivery. If you're hauling live cattle, you're getting requests for clothes and such. No no no. I don't read it. The game is grindy enough just doing what you're doing, I ignore the tangent material most of the time.

There are threads with discussion about almost every topic under the sun. Do you want to to go through 400 pages of posts to avoid "that was mentioned on page 237"?

Emmmm lets look at that a moment, there are people who spend what appears to others a vaste amount of Money on One game. So your comment about other hardware is valid. I have a very Powerful BOX, but that is used for 4K editing and playing other games as well as ED. So I have decided to invest a bit more in ED we shall see.

Good point .... thought the same myself so went and bought the latest all singing dancing "Razer Blackwidow CHROMA Stealth" Gaming Keyboard and you can assign whole strings (whatever the term is) of key strokes to just one key press. In the case of the "Request Docking" it is on the "M2" macro key right alongside my CH Pro Throttle and left thumb.... quick flick on the key and I'm in....but ... of course on-screen, it does still cycle through all the relevant menus .... just not with all the key fumbling.

The Razer is the best peripheral I've bought for the game....haven't got the VR yet tho!

N.B. Also put all the key strokes to switch OFF all the HUD and dashboard lightshow; all on one key!!!....... it is nice coasting thru the black with no glaring HUD spoiling the view!!!!!.... but when you need visuals to control your ship again, just one flick of a key brings it all instantly back online.
