Powerplay Why should I pledge?

Hi,

I thought you have to pledge to a faction to rank up, but look like it’s not like that it works. I actually became an outsider for Empire without pledging to anybody.

For what I understand now, I can be max rank and max reputation for the Federation, Alliance and Empire all at the same time, so why should I pledge and be enemy and loose ranks of other factions?

At least, some stuffs will change soon regarding powerplay.

You make a pledge to them in order to get the special equipment they offer i.e. Prismatic shields etc

Thank you.

But if I get max ranks in Empire and federation and pledge to Empire, can I still visit Sol? Or I need to pledge federation to visit Sol?

I’m thinking about joining Aisling, but I don’t want to be kill each time I’m going to explore other factions territories.

Sol is fed rank locked, but it is very low rank.

Pledging will make you hostile, to every power play faction you are not pledged to. So everywhere you go, (it used to be), other Power play faction ships, will want to attack you etc.. You should be able to land at any station etc., but you have to be careful.

Power play pledging, does not influence Major faction ranking in any way.

Thank you.

I have been hostile in my home system for many months, since I'm based in LYR space but have been pledged to various other powers on a monthly schedule.
It doesn't really do much except for the red word "hostile" that appears in your hud.

If you play in open it will make you more of a target to some Cmdrs, so that would be the biggest threat by far.

As far as NPCs hounding you, or being required to kill anyone, no, that's not the case.

Powerplay and Fed/Imp ranks are entirely separate, and have no effect on each other.

It's entirely pointless other than grinding to unlock the handful of faction-specific modules.

Whether Federation, Empire, or Alliance (or any of the other equally pointless factions) controls a given system makes ZERO difference in overall gameplay. There are some minor changes that will happen (slaves legal or illegal, 15% off purchase price for Sirius Corp systems)...but ultimately, the whole thing is empty and pointless.

Powerplay has it's flaws, in how it is communicated, and in it's mechanics. If you try and play it on your own in isolation, its about as rewarding as playing football in the same way.

Someone is less likely to find Powerplay empty and pointless, If they have an appreciation of teamplay, and a possible interest in helping a playergroup within ED. Some sort of basic social functioning helps too, but is not essential ;)

I'm certain it would be much more fun with a group. But, having no group, I didn't get anything out of it. Honestly though, it needs a ground-up rework.

copied from another thread (can't find it now):

Cytoscramblers (Archon Delaine) are brutal if you like to get in close with a fast pitching ship and have a plethora of C1 hardpoints. Paired with a weapon that applies the Corrosive effect they become, let's say, a not insignificant source of damage there. Can also be modded to cause your opponent to suffer random malfunctions for extra giggles.

Enforcer Cannons (Pranav Antal) are also pretty great, essentially turning what would be a C1 multicannon into a C2.

Packhounds (Li Yong-Rui) allow for the relatively easy annihilation of surface modules (and bleeding of MRP strength), and can apply the Drag Munitions effect to limit the targets speed to the equivalent of 0 pips in engines.

Pacifier Frag cannons (Hudson) are accurate shotguns, and even with the penalty to max damage, the much tighter cone of fire leads to far higher practical damage done in more instances.

Advanced Plasma Accelerators (Patreus) do less damage per shot than their normal counterparts in exchange for a higher RoF coupled with lower drain and heat generated per shot leading to an altogether more forgiving weapon.

Imperial Hammers (Arissa Duval) are burst fire railguns. They need a steady hand to really get the most out of (in general they are the inverse of APA), but the pay off is burst fire railguns.

Containment Missiles (Grom) are handy for those days when you want a dumbfire launcher that both knocks out FSD's and does something else, or just knocks them out even longer.

Does it need a re-work, yes, and it doesn't have to be from the ground up. You said it wasn't fun cause you did have a group, what power were you with? It's easy to find every powers organized player base. I've been with, and a leader, in Hudson for almost 3 years now. The wing fights undermining, fort caravans, PvP, and just general interaction with dozens (hundreds over time) CMDRs is what's kept me going in this game.

Pledging brings out the best in wooden furniture, as well as introducing you to a tightly knit bunch of ED players.

Pledge? Pliz.
The intangible benefits are the best ones. The playergroups have a great wealth of knowledge about all aspects of the game, which is ime on tap for all pledges, plus recommended activities to help the Power, updated as near to realtime as you can get.
