Why show players & NPC's differently?

Should the scanner differentiate between player and AI?

My by far #1 reason to distinguish between player and AI is when bounty hunting. I'm not gonna kill a player over a 425cr bounty. An AI ship? You're getting wrecked, man. Parking fines are srs business.

The casual in me wants to know when a ship is a player so I know to take them more seriously. But, it would be kind of neat not to absolutely know that there is no-one else around. In practice it would make no difference because there is no-one else around.

Hmm, good points - but if there was an -option- to "hide PCs" (personal option, to hide myself from seeing PCs as PCs - not changing how they see me), I'd use that - I frankly don't care if someone who interdicts me and I shoot at is NPC or PC - end result's the sorry same for them anyhow.

Sure, there's no reason not to offer that as an option for people who want it that way, I just think removing it outright would be a bad idea.
