Why so little merchandise?

As an original Elite player back in '84 I was expecting to be able to order all sorts of goodies to hang on the wall... signed prints by DB etc. Nada other than the (very nice looking) t-shirts and keyrings. I'm reduced to making my own!

Good question. Huge potential resources of gold have been scanned and the data reported to the FeDs, but no exploitation has been noticed.

I guess their background simulation isn't online yet :p

my guess is the cost to produce it, once the game is out we may see more of it in the store but until then FD have better things to spend time and money on.

They're probably far too busy right now getting beta 3.9 and gamma ready. Once they have more free time I wouldn't mind seeing things like actual models of the ships for sale. I'd quite happily purchase every single one of them for my man cave. A bobble head of the main man DBOBE would also be most welcome ;)

I just want an Elite: Dangerous coffee mug. Maybe with a panoramic picture of the bridge on an anaconda. Or maybe a hauler spilling it's cargo while being chased by a viper and a cobra through planetary rings?

I don't know why...but I have a thing for coffee mugs...

More generally a gifting option, seriously, the lack of this has caused me hassle.
But as has been said I suspect they are a tad busy...

Models... has to be models. Come one Frontier buy a couple of 3D printers and crank out some cool Cobras, Vipers, Adders, and Stations... I'd totally have a set on my workdesk and annoy the hell out of my coworkers with PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW

I'd like to see some mugs available in the store as well. In fact I think I would rather have a mug than a keyring.

Making models isn't the problem. The problem is that you have a limited customer base for models even if every active player bought one. So they can't get discounts on having them mass produced. The next problem is that cheap models look cheap. Yet most of us wouldn't want cheap looking models, right? I mean IF you put that thing on your desk, you want it to look detailed, without seams in the material and without faults in the paint? Unfortunately, GOOD looking models get expensive really fast. Expensive to produce, very expensive to buy. That reduces your customer base even further.

Still waiting to hear back from Edward Lewis about the use of graphics etc in regards to shops like Cafepress, Vistaprint and such. I'm thinking about opening up a Cafepress shop with a small profit margin, with all proceeds going to ED's favourite charity - that way people can pretty much have what they want!

Yes, feels a bit pricey to me too but then again ships skins for £10... Relative to that not so much perhaps.
Little ship model key-rings please?.. I may have mentioned that before :D
