Why so much Slavery?

S! all,

been playing for about 2 days now and got an A-rated Cobra Mk. III. plus a few million in change. Decided to go and visit interesting-sounding places for sight-seeing and making money. Went through Robigo, Sorthis, CEOS and Aditi on my way to Fehu but found that c. 80% of the [in]famous high-value smuggling missions were for slaves. I have tried to avoid slave-running for a bit of moral RP and because the revenue from it seems absurdly high; are most of the smuggling and similar missions for slaves or was it just coincidence that I happened upon lots of them?

This was non-allied, Merchant-rank, BTW, and most were 10 - 50 tonnes for slaves for Cr.1 - 5 million.

Would like to indulge in a bit of Kessel-run action, but would prefer it were with something nice and clean like guns / alcohol / narcotics :)

Slavery is a major thing in the outlying systems of the human inhabited bubble. Plus the Empire has a legalized Imperial Slave system, it is a reality on the galaxy that does not seems is going to end anytime soon. At least, human lives, enslaved or not, still have a high value for us traders and smugglers to profit and plunder. Happy times.

Sir,

Imperial Slaves are debtors who could not repay their obligations in a timely manner and are bound to contractual servitude. Once their time of service has been completed and the Empire reimbursed in full, they may rejoin society without stigma. I suggest you support this cause instead of Federation slavery which is an abomination to any civilized society.

Yours sincerely.

A nugget of painite is the same as any other nugget of painite. A human being - no other one like it.

Unless we're talking Robigo. Those are definitely clones. Or Thargoids. I don't know why they're so expensive.

Imperial slaves good, other slaves bad.

Imperial slaves are protected by imperial laws. Its way for people who live in debt and can't pay/get money to pay it. Honorable way to get yourself back on you feets.

Ignore the reality where they're abused and usually die before their term is up, if they're not simply trafficked into Federation space and turned into actual slaves. Almost every slave smuggling mission from Robigo is into Fed space, for example.

They're more expensive because they used to be real people with training and jobs, but now they're just property for you to sell to the highest bidder.

The real mystery is not the price of slaves but the high value bio-waste missions. How come someone is willing to pay hundreds of thousands to transport 'organic fertiliser' a couple of hundred light years when you can pick up something similar in most systems for a fraction of the price of a limpet?

You would have to be brain damaged to think that the Federation allows slavery in any of its systems.

Why don't you mention how Denton Patreus enslaved entire planets? Doesnt fit your volunteer slavery propaganda?

If you want to fight against the evils of imperial slavery and regular slavery then the Federation is your best ally.

You want to know what Federation citizens do if they are up to their eyeballs in debt? They file for bankruptcy protection and are able to continue being free while also being productive members of society.

If you recognize that slavery is morally wrong then Come and join Hudson or Winters in our fight against slavery.

Delivering bio-waste with foreign disease profile the locals are not used to is a time tested method of spreading plagues around the galaxy for pharmaceutical profits.

There's nothing immoral in smuggling slaves. They're already slaves, and if you don't transport them, someone else will. There's so many slaves in Robigo that life must be very uncomfortable for them there. Smuggling them back to the civilised world will probably be a better life for them, so you'd be doing them a favour.

The Federation uses slavery the same way the ancient US used illegal immigrants. They're a key piece of the economy, so the police don't work too hard at stamping it out. In some places where public opinion drove the enforcement of deportation laws, particularly agricultural businesses suddenly found it very difficult to find employees, and lobbied state governments to stop.

Think of it like the drug trade, or prostitution. Regulation of the industry, in every nation that tried it, has seen a reduction of use and associated violent crime. The profit margins mean capitalists will always try to exploit slavery. They apparently can't be stopped, so they must be managed.

You can allways bring them to the alliance to be free men once more

I recomend you try some rare goods trading. Rares Metro Map
Several of the rare goods are weapons, booze and narcotics. No missions for rare goods, but trading them at the optimal distance of around 160ly is fairly profitable. Though not as well paying as stacking shadow missions.
A Cobra is the ideal rare goods trader. It has enough cargo, long range, fast and can defend itself.

I just shoot Imperial Slave ships out of the sky because they're pack full to the brim of Imperials. Seems like an effective way to get rid of lots at once.

Considering that their words to justify shackling one's life to a coin or any of such is the reason why there is such a problem in the first place. It allows for a corrupt system of abduction and greed among political rivals for cheap labor at the expense of skilled hands, which would explain why Federation Systems are settling for such a low value anyways, those politicians do not speak for the whole of the Federation and only speak for their internal greed. Long live the Federation! Let those who do no justice know that we are here! ;)

The Federation prefers to create corporate wage-slaves so they can put a more palatable name to their crimes.

At least the Empire is more honest about it.

Yeah not to mention they keep it down low, its alot similar to US Politics and the seperate Individual Private Agencies that do tend to have freedom of whatever the      they want. (Charlie India Alpha)

Robigo slaves are not going somewhere to work as domestic servants or agricultural workers. Those you can pick up anywhere for 10k a pop.

Robigo slaves are a "special item" for special customers with special requirements... matched sets of triplets for illegal medical experiments or 6 juicy fat ones heading for a rich degenerate's cannibal dinner party for example. Hence the HIGH delivery fee.
