Why some suggestions threads are closed?

Just a small question, some suggestions are closed and cannot be answered and I just wondering why? I think it's great if people can still answer the thread to be able to give developers an idea of whether the idea is popular or not...

Maybe a voting system for suggestion to see how popular it is would be great to help developers... Just a suggestion, maybe it doesn't make sense.

Would guess due to the fact there are threads about this already, one only needs to search ;) thou it would be nice if the mod would just link that in the end of a closed thread, more work i know, but better then just closed.

Thanks for the info Brett... I understand the reason behind this. But if we want to add something to this idea/suggestion, there's no way except to create a new thread. Maybe it could be interesting to be able to reopen once and if it happens again, it will be close/archive (because there's so much thread that it's sometimes be easy to lost one)? Just a suggestion...
