Personally spend some bucks on Elite Dangerous and decide for yourself. It is Beta at the moment and about to get serious with the premiere on Nov 22 in London and the official release Dec 16, 2014. If you buy into it now you will get an early start on the game before it is officially released plus a few incentives.

X-plane Global 10xx costs $60.00 USA. If you buy all the aircraft and airports available and the advanced controllers especially when it comes to flying helicopters one can easily spend $2500 USA or more on this simulation. They are really serious about flight simulation. They even have a FAA approved version for flight schools.

So you are getting a great deal with Elite Dangerous. They are just as serious about what they are trying to accomplish at a much lower cost. My suggestion is to pay the entrance fee, ignore all the negatives on the forum, and decide for yourself what works for you. Currently there are many negative posts on the forum. There are also many positive ones. The game is stable and ready to be launched. It won't cost you much to be a part of it's opening history as you were there when it happened.

This was a Kickstarter progrem. Initally some paid up to 750 pounds sterling to join the club. They did that because they had the means to do it and the Elite games were a major influence in their lives and their success. Thus don't get cheap per you low entry fee to become part of an amazing event about to happen. All the old guys who believed in Elite for years are going for it. What does it cost you to have a little faith and support in the latest greatest game? FD after 19 years since FFE is going to nail it this time...or not. It is about what we expect as players versus what FD will provide us while still making a profit. We'll see.
