Why Steam?

Frontier could just make it optional, would make everyone happy. Everyone gets a Steam code, if you don't activate it, you can still play with their launcher.

I also like the "Time played" on Steam. It doesn't work for "Non-Steam-Games". I like to keep track of how addicted i am.

That's probably my favorite feature as well... Except when it shows that I have >600 hours played of Rocket League.

I think having it available on both platforms is their best plan of action as well. I can't foresee a non-Steam release seeing as Elite Dangerous is on there.

Is this the new "Steam Support" thread ?
https://forums.planetcoaster.com/showthread.php/77-Steam-Support

Anyway, just three important informations :

1) Steam Support :

HQ: Will the alpha be available on Steam.
A: The alpha will only be available from the Frontier Store. We aren’t able to confirm any details regarding Steam just yet but one thing is for sure if we launch on Steam we will make sure that everyone that has purchased on our store will have access to a steam code, should they wish to add it to their library.

2) UGC Support ("Steam Workshop") :

SteamStore =/= SteamWorkshop
A game available on Steam is not forced to use the Steam Workshop to share custom content.
Frontier can use their own, homemade "UGC Content Manager" if they want AND have the game on Steam at the same time.

3) It's not "Steamstore VS Frontierstore" :

... But "Frontierstore only or both" ! A game can be sold in many stores !!!
If the game is available on Steam, this does not mean that Steam will become the only way to play Planet Coaster.
Most of us use Steam to centralize their games, and shall enjoy the benefits and services of the steam platform.

I'm sure that PC will be on steam at some point in the future as they have already told us that existing users will get a steam key once it's out on steam - just like the ELITE game is - even though it has it's own launcher.

Personally, I would rather see frontier collect the full revenue to put towards more development into the game instead of feeding Steam's pockets. Dont get me wrong, I like steam and nearly all of my games I have are through steam, but I would rather see more money spent to the game itself.

The only reason I think it would be nice on Steam is just for the ease of transferring game data from one computer to another. I do know that I can transfer files via flash drive but in the case of an unexpected loss of data through physical harm to the hard drive.

I see a lot of requests for the game to be on steam.. im curious to know why . I actually like the fact that the game has its own Launchpad and its directly through frontier . am I missing something?
A lot of gamers have purchased their games through steam and launch their games through that medium. However its your choice how you want purchase your game and launch it. You have a choice

I want all my games in one place, not another launcher, we already have too many, and there's really nothing wrong with steam right now.

I am happy with it too. I just hope they add the friends option soon. (alpha 3 maybe9.

My only experience with Steam is Cities Skylines. While i like the ease in which one can add user content, I spend way too much time chasing bugs and trying to figure out why my saved games won't load.

If staying with the launcher here means never having those issues, I'm really good with that.

Nah, you're going to deal with bugs no matter where you download it from. Doesn't matter. Every game/launcher has a bug somewhere. Platform doesn't matter.

Steams just another way to distribute the game. They'll do Steam anyway because they'll want an additional revenue stream outside of their own store.

Edit: The reason it's not on Steam atm is because of the fact it's not the full game experience yet. Once it's actually at a stage where Frontier is comfortable at selling it outside their store like with Elite then they'll do it. Until then, it's basically limited to one place to purchase until it's polished and a more complete game.
