Why such a gap between physical and digital release?

Just seen a couple of sources that say the physical release wont be available until July 3rd with digital obviously being June 12th. This is usually something you see with movies than games, how come such a difference in release?

On the topic of digital, ps4 is only offfering (currently) the standard edition, no deluxe version like there is on steam.

I would rephrase it - It's great that they decided to release the digital version right after the game "gone gold" and will not wait for physical discs to be pressed and distributed. :)

What I mean is - it always take about a month between the game going gold (being finished) and being distributed to stores. That's one of the reasons why "Day one DLCs" are a thing. But usually the digital release have to wait for the discs being pressed. This way it's nicer to customers, I think. I like it. Nobody does this.

Great if you like digital/pc player but I hate digital through and through haha. So in this situation I either have to buy digital or wait even longer as ill be playing on PS4 (very very unlikely my pc will be upgraded by release). Digital sucks, always costs more for technically less and although wont be the case with this game, if it outright sucks, youre stuck with it :(

Think selflessly. If digital and physical release were the same day, it would mean that all "digital players" had to wait a month for your disc to be distributed.

Oh im not trying to be selfish about it just wondering why theyve gone this route when generally digital/physical for everything else game wise tend to be released at the some time. Where digital gets the advantage for midnight release etc. Digital is a rip off in some countries with tax laws, UK being one so just surprised me the devs/publishers have chosen this route :)

I know it's not directly related to the topic but it looks like there won't be a physical release for PC at all, which is a bit of a disappointment for me. But oh well. I'm used to it by now.

I don't really mind digital releases, but I do want my favorite games as a physical release. I'm curious though if there will be a collector's edition or something. If so I may get the physical release for Xbox.

I've been told by the frontier team that the deluxe version will release at the same time as the standard on June 12th

For every digital copy sold a percentage goes to the platform it's being played on (Steam, Microsoft and Sony).
You may think a digital copy is more expensive but a fact is that the physical version costs more than the digital.

I’m reasonably sure I ordered deluxe on PS4....but I’m old so now I’m going to have to verify!

The so called Physical copies these days dont always contain a fully self contained game . JWE will probably just contain the game launcher and a few other files before the rest of the game gets downloaded digitally.

What do you mean technically less? All you get with a physical copy is a plastic case and some cover art. You might get a 2 or 3 page manual in black and white with basics about the game if you are lucky. I don't even think games have manuals anymore.

Who reads manuals anymore anyways right. [haha]

I will be playing on my PC so I don't have a choice. Though if I see a physical copy of the game anywhere or I can find it online some where I will buy it. I don't think PC gamers should have to wait to play the game cause some people want a physical copy of the game. PC games are 95% digital now anyway. I don't think I have seen a physical copy of any new game that has a PC version.

I don't know why they have such a huge gap between the physical and digital release. Maybe it's because of the process that makes the physical discs? But this just a guess. I am sure there is a reason though. I am just glad we will get the game early in June. I always thought we wouldn't get the game till later in June.

Since most games have tutorials and things like that they aren't really needed anymore I guess. But I remember when games used to come with nice color manuals and they were pretty thick. FF7 had a nice manual and so did MGS1 on the PS1. It had some nice artwork inside. But by far the best was PC games. I had the old Baldurs Gate II box with the game and huge manual inside and bunch of other things. It was nice. What I have always wanted is the box copies of Fallout and Fallout 2 but they are so damned rare and expensive.

Digital games were said to be cheaper cause there was no disc, no box/case and no manual and inserts. Yet here we are and they cost just as much as games that come with a disc and case.

When I go into Walmart which is rare these days cause I hate the place I see some physical copies of PC games but not many. I will keep an eye open for a physical copy of this game. But I may have to look online. I know Europe still does physical copies so maybe I can get a physical copy that is also in English. It doesn't matter cause all computers are the same, it's not like a console.
