First off, sorry about the audio, I was watching The Office while playing and didn't notice it got picked up until after upload.

I had just logged on and took off from Palin Research center, about to head out to my destination before the friendly federal ships there suddenly opened fire on me for no reason. I don't think I flew too close to the Capital ship because I've been closer to other ones for a longer period of time (maybe this one in particular really wanted to be left alone?)

You'll also notice there is a strange message from one of them right before I'm killed. "I want to reach out and touch someone" then boom they open fire. What the hell?

the escorts of the cap ships around palin as well as around the barnacles behave a bit strange - they attack "on sight"/proximity.

you don't get the usual cap ship - back off message there.

been there, done that.

stay at least 4 km from any federal ship there ... better 7+ km, if you harvest branacles.

I swooped down close to the ground and slid into the base that way. Did the same on the way out.

So they do warn you sometimes. Maybe you missed the first message, since all you see is the "open fire" message about reaching out to touch someone.

I've had a similar thing at Palin... I flew straight up thinking the Cap ship would ignore me ... it didn't. After the Rebuy I took off along the ground for 7 or 8 clicks before turning my nose skywards...

So unpredictable.

I recently upgraded my Anaconda with grade 5 dirty drives.
Eager to test them, i did loops around the Farragut for several minutes before trying to fly down the middle.


Anacondas don't fit.

And the Farragut didn't open fire. Didn't even care i was bumping in to it or anything. Lol
I got bored and left.

Okay, so that message about reaching out is supposed to be a warning before opening fire? Still find it strange they would kill just for proximity like that. If I had zero or negative standing with the Feds then I might understand but I didn't do anything wrong here

Oh well I'm just glad I wasn't flying an expensive ship.

Yeah I didn't even bother trying to charge my FSD, I knew I was toast.

Yeah this has happened since the Farragut arrived there. I was there in my imperial eagle doing some engine upgrades probably more than 6 months ago and the escorts attacked me. Of course they couldn't catch or hit imperial eagle flying through at top speed.

I used to see that all the time. Lol

I joined PowerPlay, grabbed cargo, went to a Nav beacon, killed PowerPlay NPC's.

You then get;
Security
PowerPlay NPC's
Pirates
And Bounty Hunters

All firing at once.


I still survived.
Great fun though. It's like a laser show, just for you.

I always stay the heck away from cap ships, been shot up more then once getting too close.

They opened fire on my Type-9 when I was there having my drives dirtied real nice.
But they were too little, and too late - I was already 3/4 charged when they decided to start taking pot shots at me.
I kind of wish I'd had a few tons of biowaste to eject onto that capital ship though to voice my lack of amusement.

It seems to happen randomly sometimes.
I had my ASP shot down on my first visit to Palin. Glad it was after I landed there and sold all the exploration data from my 6000ly back and forth to unlock Palin.
Support helped me on the issue by refunding the rebuy.
(FD support is friendly and helpful)

Seems warning message didn't play, in general they don't want people to be there, warning normally triggers when you get into their 'area' as well last I checked.
