Why we are not allowed to expand ?

I am sure that this question must be discussed in the past, but I tried search and I did not found anything relevant.

Why it is not possible to expand from the human inhabited bubble to the rest of the Galaxy ? I can imagine, that this is not a task for one player, but why a group of players cannot buy some "seed" of Starport and start to build it, maybe in form of CGs or something similar ? And after a basic Starport with refuel/reload is finished, maybe it should be possible to add modules for "Repair", "Commodities market", "Police" etc.

IMHO it is not necessary that the Starport will be a private property of some player/group. It can belong to some in-game faction, just like the rest of stations.
Just the possibility to expand to the rest of Galaxy is fun enough.

We already have expanded AND built a station (Unity) that belongs to a faction. ;)

I was there. I did that thing. :)

I also believe some smaller outposts were constructed in another event.

That sounds exciting... How does one go about doing that? Is that a natural consequence of a successful expansion in power play?

I'm pretty sure I have expanded since last December when I started to play Elite. Or at least my waistline has. All those hours at the controls...

If you do missions for a faction and give them an overwhelming amount of influence in a sector, they will try to expand to others nearby, which means creation of mew ports in uninhabited sectors, and wars for control in inhabited ones. At least that's what I've been told.
