WHY? Why are you carrying "Grain"?

OK, so ill pulled this guy over, immidiatly asked for 12 cargo and if he complied we would leave the instance safe and sound. needless to say for some reson he refused and started to run, so i start my attack trageting his cargo hatch "getting really goo at that BTW" so no need for a hatch breaker and cluttering up my cargo hold with limpets and proceed to take his cargo hatch out, stuff stats pouring out and im thinking to myself mmmmmmm theres the goodies. i take his cargo hatch down to 0% and hes in 3% hull, i stop my attack and let him leave, no need for needless killings. and he promptly SC'es away, so i check my contacts and low and behold i HUGH list of "Grain" worth about 200cr on the black market...yay i just made enough to pay off the bounty and fines i got from shooting the guy. not a very profitable venture thsi time around. and honestly if the guy would have stopped and said i have grain lol i would have laughed and offered him so of my own credits "if that was a thing i could do" just cause i felt bad he was carrieing grain lol.

My first guess would be he didn't have enough cash for a more expensive cargo without dipping into his rebuy credits.
Why make a thread on the forum about it? Do you really expect him to come and answer?

Maybe he was fed up with pirates and decided he would troll them?

There are some missions that like ask for 4 grain and they offer reward of 10.000 credits. So invested 200 credits to get 10.000, pure profit: 9.800 cr. This is one motive to transport grain when you are starting to play :) ...transporting grain with Orca, not so good investment :)))

sounds like he was hauling for a mission. 12 grain sounds about right. SO he could not eject the cargo. (unless things have changed with current patch) .

My first question would be "Why didn't you cargo scan him to find out what he was carrying?".

It's a little bit like a mugger beating a guy up and then bemoaning that he only had 5 quid on him. If you're held at gun point it's not unreasonable to assume that telling your mugger that you're nearly broke is going to elicit a bad ending for you, after all - he's pointing a gun at you.

that is true and i have been thinking about that honestly im def considering it, but its like christmas when cargo starts to pour out not know what is there, the guy befor that had all GOLD, so some are good marks and some are bad.

Honestly theres more people bouty hunting than pirating, i have seen no pirates aside from me. around the areas

I have a theory, the reason you don't see many pirates in open play is because they all play solo to protect the bounties on their heads. A player driven ship might actually defeat them where an NPC never will. I gave up serious bounty hunting for this precise reason

Trying to come up with a hypothesis why he might have grain in his cargo hold:
- Could have been a bulletin board mission. They often ask for foodstuffs of different sorts, including grain.
- If it was a ship with a very large hold it might just have been soon after he bought it. Lacking the money to fill the hold with expensive stuff grain actually gives a very good return on investment, in some cases 400% or so. Of course it's 400% of very little, but that's still better than 10% of still very little. You see, as a pirate it pays understanding traders to avoid unfortunate incidents.

But seriously, don't you pirates carry a cargo scanner? If you dropped me out of supercruise in my Asp or Hauler I wouldn't have 12t of cargo to give you since these are my exploration ships and I simply don't carry any cargo. You wouldn't believe me and shoot me up and just because you don't carry a cargo scanner? Shame on you, sir!

Really?

I was hoping it was obvious that I was being silly.

ya i know but still people thing open mode has to many greifers and its actually not so, your mnore likly to get interdicted by a NPC than you are buy a pirate
