Why YOU should care about the Onionhead CG

The top tier reward from this CG would be a 40T per visit rare commodity. That means a minimum of 600,000 CR per half route! If you do a 2 station route with another rares station in Mahon space, you could easily net 4-5 Million per hour!!!! Instead of the current rate which is around 1.5-2.5 Million per hour doing a time consuming circuit.

Ok why should you care when you can make this same kind of money in a T9? Well for one, small ships are cheaper, as are the rares cargo, so pirates and losses pose much less of a financial risk, while netting gains remain similar to a large trading vessel. Trading rares lets you see more of the Galaxy, and in SC, a small ship is infinitely more pleasurable to fly than lumbering through space in an iron sea cow.

EDIT:

I did a quick recalculation: If you combine the 20% from Mahon and the rank 5 bonus, the 600k CR jumps up to ~1 M CR per half trip. If you combined this with another higher spawning rate rare, you could end up making closer to 6 Million per hour doing rares for Mahon. This is of course assuming that Mahon would eventually take over Xelabara, which of course he would. 6 million/hr is about the most I've ever made from 2 station trading, but admittedly, my eyes bled from the boredom before I could find a really decent short route for my T9.

Hm, it's been a while since I waited 30 Minutes per stop to fill up my max. allotment of Rares.
That waiting game has been the prime reason I stopped having any interest in Rares Trading of any kind. In the same time it takes to get a full load from 3 places, I'll make ~5-6M Cr even in my Mining Rig.

PS.
And since rares are available from what feels like every 10th System nowadays - I don't even consider them rares anymore to be honest.
Nice profits for T6, Asp or Cobra CMDRs in their starting days but irrelevant soon thereafter.
I'd rather pop a 300k Bounty in a Compromised NAV or HazRES and be done in 10 Minutes instead of making half-hour AFK breaks hugging a Pad.

I asked my long-range hauler Condie. She says 'meh'.

But your enthusiasm for illegal trade is highly commendable!

Ask your midrange Diamondback Scout. They are a blast to fly and can make it from Kappa Fornacis to Xelabara in 6 minutes easy. They can also do double duty as Bounty Hunters for that other CG. ;)

+1 to the OP! Rare trading is much more fun than regular trading, IMHO. The diversity of hauled cargo, the chance of some rares being illegal on other station on your route and therefore spicing up gameplay with some smuggling from time to time, the option to fly small ships, the number of different systems you visit - it all adds to the enjoyment for me.

And for those who don't care about fun but only about making "crediz", the OP explained that even they might get something out of a rare commodity with ample availability.

Anyway, I am in :)

Dont wait at the station, hunt bounties near Xelabara to boost your income. Remember, if we get to the top tier, you will be helping to fix rare trading income to viable levels.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Scout as much as the next guy but prefer something with a little bit more zing to it. A Courier with Onionhead decals kind of thing. If I can spec it properly, I'll see you there :p

I would participate in this CG much more if I didnt have to sit in a station waiting for the Commodities Market to update as it only saw fit to give me 1-2t on the first tick.

And for a smuggling CG I passed 1 or 2 systems that classed me as having "Illicit Cargo", neither one being the source or target system.

I am completely underwhelmed by this CG. Shame.

I'm in - I'm a rare trade convert. I've shipped 59T so far with another 8 inbound but is this CG broken? Seems odd that >42K shipped and still not reached rare created stage.

I've done 54 tonnes in my asp and I'm getting bored shirtless. the global rewards bar is not moving still...

*goes shooting pirates*

Someone else take my top 5% place.

Asked Rhuagh yesterday if we should go and he agreed, however he said "Bring our Support- and logistics Cmdr in his Asp Explorer, then park me outside and let him do the quick runs between the station and me".

And so we did :)

You will have to campaign hard to get the sidewinder upgraded to Large ship standards so you can carry 40 tonnes.

The bar is visible now! Tier 1 nearly reached :)

All these CGs are just not worth the effort when you have a smuggling route and a trader conda... with 8-10 mil an hour profit.

Id be all in for it if it was profitable though.

Great news that the Tier bar now seems to be functioning. :)

I hauled 84t so far, and will be back this evening. I guess that if one is purely profit driven, this CG may not appeal; however, I play the long game, ten years long in fact. I like trading Rares, and this is a great goal for folk like me. Another rare on the market, and the potential to up the ante on cargo allowance.

There is also the small matter of being a new recruit to the East India Company. This is an important bit of business for us... ;)
