PvP Why you shouldn't block people in open

So I got ganked again in my unarmed diamondback xp....whiny-whiny, salty-salty, yada-yada....

Here is why I don't block the player in question (and you should neither):
In Austria (and maybe in other countries too) we have a saying: "Ma trifft se immer zwoamoi im leben." - Which basically translates to: "You always meet twice in life."

So...we will meet again...and next time I'll be in another ship and have a better skillset and I'm going to kill you![yesnod]
If you just block a player that bothers you, you take away your only change of this sweet, sweet revenge (even if it's only hypothetical).

Also, while we are on the subject: I have read many times that the main reasons for the high amount of gankers and griefers (whatever the difference is) is that there is not really much to gain from PvP atm. Is there really nothing rewarding to do for PvPers, aside from bounty hunting - which in reality is irrelevant on the PvP side of things?

Edit: Don't take me too serious on this ;)

Please stop assuming that everyone wants the same things out of the game. If I encounter a particularly obnoxious player then I'm not going to go out of my way to 'get revenge' or any bobbins like that. I'm going to block them.*

You don't 'seek revenge' on parasites. You just remove them and move on.

*Hasn't happened in a long time now, but the option is there if I choose to.

I should have added (going to) to my post that it should not be taken too seriously ;)
Of course everybody can - and should - play the game the way they want to.

For mine, I'll only block players who behave like jerks/ats/bullies, and I reserve the right not to have to play with jerks/ats/bullies if I choose not to. If the block allows me to exercise that right instead of avoiding a mode altogether, so much the better.

In this case, the only reason I can can see why we should not block anyone is because ye assume one would seek revenge...there are more effective ways of dealing with morons and that is simply to remove them entirely. Thanfully frontier had the foresight to cater fer those of us who refuse to sink to that level of moronic pettiness...the desire to have revenge is a human flaw so why would I indulge a flaw?

1/10 fer effort though ^

Depends on the situation.

I've never blocked anybody for attacking me. That thought doesn't even enter my head, really.

If I block somebody, it's because they're acting like a tool; dropping mines inside stations, blocking the mailslot while their mate shoots at people, blocking pads or, perhaps, doing stuff to try and get a station to destroy other ships.

In the latter case, I don't want "revenge".
I simply don't want to meet people who act like tools again.

He's from Austria… ;) :p

Uhh...I knew giving away my home country was dangerous ;)
But to your question: of course those things are bad and as a new player I got quite frustrated at times. However, now I mostly know how to avoid those situations, have more than enough money for a lot of rebuys and therefore it just adds a certain suspense to the game for me. Same reason I generally do CGs in open, much more suspense.
On the other hand after long exploration trips I usually fly back into the bubble in solo, so I won't loose weeks of gameplay.

Nah for me it's ohhh there an ahat, where's my block button...funnily enough as I was typing this I blocked someone for that in HOTS. It's my game time I chose who I want to spend it with.

Try a few months not weeks and then its approaching a long expedition...when its measured in weeks, its just a safari.

I dont block anyone in open play unless they being moron and acting like tools...thats what the block function is for, not escalation or making open like solo mode. If that works fer you then all is grand, but it doesnt work fer everyone.

We have a saying here in Belfast too...if someone is being a , then just walk away cos aint worth doin time for. As this is Belfast, one learned the hard way why seeking revenge can be the downfall of a man, so we learned to just laugh it off and walk away while still laughing ^

My first 'proper' trip into the black lasted somewhere between 9 months and a year (I forget exactly) and when I finally approached Colonia I switched over to a Private Group (Fleetcom), because while I may have been born at night I wasn't born last night.
