PvP Why you shouldn't block people in open

My 'blocked players' list.

I've never used this feature. I sometimes tell people about it, but never use it myself.

I was once killed 4 times by the same wing in 15 mins, on my way to a HazRES at a CG but I've never felt the urge to hide in solo or block anyone. Mind you, as the vocal poster-boy for the 'jump-honk-scoop-yawn' playstyle, I imagine you are No1 on many KoS lists. [big grin]

Thankfully, if you are inclined towards a 'victim mentality', 2 alternate modes + block feature + 'space is big' = zero issue. I never understand the point of the 'Woe is me...I was ganked' threads.

Btw, I'd pay good money to watch you attempt some revenge!

I only block station griefers, after a few years of being bored by them. There are no genuine PVP'ers/threats/fun on my block list at all.

I've never used this feature.

I'd get an infraction for naming and shaming if I posted mine.

I don't think I am on anyones KoS list. My personality is far too charming for that. I was killed yesterday, and the CMDR apologized afterwards for doing that. Charm at work.

Odd use of 'victim mentality'. If you are at home watching a movie, and a tap in the kitchen goes: drip, drip, drip loud enough to annoy you. Do you sit there enduring the annoyance, because doing something about it would be a victim mentality?

We're playing games to enjoy ourselves, and we configure those games to maximize that enjoyment. Has very little to do with victim mentality.

Yo mamma so fat, she could use a healthy diet and some regular exercise.

Nah, you're right. I'm crap at revenge :)

Don't worry, I've been training with Mr Miyagi, Zig, I'll get revenge for both of us!!

For mine, I'll only block players who behave like jerks/ats/bullies, and I reserve the right not to have to play with jerks/ats/bullies if I choose not to. If the block allows me to exercise that right instead of avoiding a mode altogether, so much the better.

I went the same way with this on the last CG I did last week. I normally do CG's in solo. I decided to give open a try. For the most of it, no problem. Last two days of the CG I was intercepted by that most fearsome band of pirates know as "The Code". They pulled my T9 out of SC and gave me a chance - 80 tons of cargo or else. I provided the 80 tons. I didn't block them. I was also ganked at the destination twice by the same jerk (just blasted the shields down and then rammed my ship to destruction). No way to avoid since I was approaching the mailslot.

I decided I could either give up on open or use the feature that FD provided: I went through the list of commanders I had encountered, found the one that said "killed you" and clicked on "block player". I will admit it is the first (and so far only) time I've used this feature.

I don't mind a challenge. That's what open is for - random acts by unknown elements. However, someone just being a 5-year old with a .357 Magnum is someone that needs to play with NPC's only. If everyone he encounters does the same thing (blocking him), he'll eventually end up with NPC's only. I'll be the last to cry on his behalf about it.

Utilities 1 Ziggy 0 - Victim! Unless you were watching 'Assassins Creed' - holy crap...how bad is this movie?:O
- in which case, loud tap drips would be considered welcome relief from the dialogue.

Yeah sorry Zig, it sounded like that paragraph of my previous post was aimed at you - it wasn't!

Agreed, there is ofc a big difference between taking in-game steps to avoid players for pragmatic 'ugh this is getting tedious' reasons (as Stigbob also mentioned) & the emotional reactions that we have seen so often on the forums, ranting & accusations of psychological issues etc from such events. Disposition is key with genuine 'griefers' (of whom there are very few, imo) because it is the reaction, not the act, that gives them the buzz...which is where 'victim mentality' comes in.

EDIT: Ahhh moved to the PvP section! Well, 'no point in continuing then (yeah mods, I know - 'it's on display...')

I've only blocked two people.

I could not care any less about them, and would not feel the slightest pang if either or both fell head first into wood chippers, their shredded remnants were then dumped into boiling vats of hydroflouric acid, and the resulting parcipitates used to treat sewage water.

Once you make it to That List there's no coming back. I'm likely the easiest person to get along with there is, but even I have my limits.

Once you've blocked a player, can you unbolck them later? I never knew about this (that you could block a player) until just now. Of course I don't spend a lot of time reading the forum or instructions. If I'm able to unblock them, then when they gank me in a CG, I'll just block them and then when the CG's over, I can unblock them again.

But I would never block someone in normal circumstances and would never do it at all if it's irreversible. I don't say other people should take this attitude. Play your way. My way is to take whatever comes. But CG's are big money and I'm willing to modify my behavior a bit for that. But not if it's irreversible.

I didn't think it was :) It's all good.

You can unblock players, but what you suggest sounds like too much effort for me. Just block then forget they exist.

Detailed info here on how it works : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ners-advice-on-dealing-with-griefing-(part-2)

So I got ganked again in my unarmed diamondback xp....whiny-whiny, salty-salty, yada-yada....

Here is why I don't block the player in question (and you should neither):
In Austria (and maybe in other countries too) we have a saying: "Ma trifft se immer zwoamoi im leben." - Which basically translates to: "You always meet twice in life."

So...we will meet again...and next time I'll be in another ship and have a better skillset and I'm going to kill you![yesnod]
If you just block a player that bothers you, you take away your only change of this sweet, sweet revenge (even if it's only hypothetical).

Also, while we are on the subject: I have read many times that the main reasons for the high amount of gankers and griefers (whatever the difference is) is that there is not really much to gain from PvP atm. Is there really nothing rewarding to do for PvPers, aside from bounty hunting - which in reality is irrelevant on the PvP side of things?

Edit: Don't take me too serious on this ;)

The game is designed around the definition of PVP that the PVP players do not like...basically the only PVP that matters is the tug of war of PVE trophy movement. 'Real' PVP has no effect on the game...other than to be a nuisance for those that do not want to PVP...
