"Wibbly Wobbly" Stars and where FD can shove 'em.

OP you get a +1 just for that title. Very funny post altogether.

From what I have read these things are at their most dangerous if you fall into them outside of supercruse. But the method of escape is very similar to the graphic already posted:

Caveat: I have never been to one in 2.2 so this is all 2nd hand knowledge

1. Don't panic
2. Throttle to zero (this is mega important as it will massively reduce the turbulence)
3. Try to point directly away from the star
4. Engage frame shift but do not throttle up yet
5. When the frame shift is ready to engage go full throttle

Hopefully this will get you back into supercruise pointing away from the star and you will exit the polar jet.

I wonder if the fast-boot drive would be a useful protection against malfunctions here. (I mean, everyone will think "never happen to me" and take increased range anyway, but still, it's got to be useful for something)

Would be cool if instead of having dying as your only option, you could charge FSD inside the cone during free-fall and end up in a random system within 1000 LY. But have 50% FSD module damage. Death would still be possible if you fail to charge FSD in time.

^ This. Bring back the mis-jump!

Maybe as a quick charge un-plotted high wake combat escape? No destination, high possibility of drive damage, huge fuel usage and therefore risk of marooning...?

Some issues, as would be a game mechanic condoned combat log. Therefore cost and risk should be very high.

Jaques to the Great Annihilator in only a few hours thanks to this technique. Well worth the risk. The only downside is missing out on all that lovely data.

I like your thinking on this one. Excellent idea. That would create game-play. You see.. this is where the RNG is a very good option.

If the jump boost was +900% then it would be worth the risk. But for a 300% boost when I could make 4 regular jumps in the time it takes me to supercharge and re-re-replot?

No thanks. I'll stick to normal jumps.

Same. But I don't think that they are meant to be looked at as 'power ups'. They're one of the most incredible destructive forces around and can rip our ship apart. By way of a side effect, crazy people can hitch a ride on them.

Kind of like massive waves around a reef. Sure: some crazy people ride on a plank them for kicks, but actual travellers are adviced to stay clear.

It's probably time FD made an Exploration training video. Explain scanners, scoopable star types, galaxy map filtering, AFM, and overcharging FSD at neutron stars and dwarfs.

Op: +1! And as some here sais, therr is some stuff you can do. I suggest buying a sidey close to a WD in the bubble and just trying things for a bit. :)

Hmm, I just got sucked into one about 30 minutes ago. Not much you can do it seems. Just lost 3 months of scan data, or roughly 200 hours of scan data.

So yeah, FD can shove this new game mechanic up their dark side.

On the plus side, I wiped my save and I'll find something better to do with my time.

And -1 to you. :)

I've set up my route filter to exclude white dwarfs so I don't have to worry about them when bumming around in the bubble.

Just go to the filter section, choose Star Class, uncheck white dwarf (and others if you like), and check the box at the bottom. Might save some grief.

Here's my filter set up to only use scoopable stars.
