In 2.4 - I think we're going to redefine the meaning of "Pleiades bleed trails"

Also rep for way cool read.

Tip for naked eye astronomers:
1) Put your clothes back on, it's cold.
2) The colour detecting cones in your eyes are large and concentrated in the center of your retina. This gives poor detail resolution but excellent colour. To see the details in the seven sisters, look at a nearby star instead of directly at the cluster. This will get the starlight onto the densely packed rods on your retina that only detect light presence, not colour.

Fun fact: the rods and cones of your retina face outward and are wired up by nerves inside the eye ball - not hanging off the back like you might imagine. The well known "blind spot" is where the optic nerve bundle goes through the retina and out to the brain. So light has to go through the nerve and the rods to get detected. Mind was blown when I found that out.
