Wild Guesstimates From Arthritic Old Poodle With Arthritis...

Ok, so soon the Beta test will be over, and the Beyond series will be complete.

Not including any DLC, I'm guessing the following will occur:

After the first quarter of next year, the novelty of the new mechanics will have worn off, and Frontier will need to repair the current FSS mechanism with something less user-hostile.

Mining will enjoy a slight resurgence.

The new ships will not be seen with such adoration. Perhaps the 70 light-year jump one might see some use, but yet another combat ship will not be very exciting.

Frontier will need to start generating hand-crafted content, or the FSS will not unify all aspects of the game. This means spending money. The players will consume the content faster than Frontier can make it, so they will double down on multiplayer. Solo PvE players will be even more alienated.

Unless the mission boards are fixed, there will be little to attract players to the game. Again, money and Dev time will be outpaced by player consumption.

Atmospheric operations, and legs will probably be DLC, so they will be gambles.

Elite will *not* die. It's players will... :(

I see it the other way round.

Mining is broken, needs fix.
FSS/exploring is good, people will live with it.

A competitor for the FdL is nice, the Phantom is another nice ship.

So no doom yet.

I agree with the mining, not sure about the FSS yet. But the new mining while looking very cool really highlights the need for QOL.
In other words there needs something to be done about limpets.
I hate them!
I hate how they are cargo and not ammo!
I hate the way they suicide!
I hate how they are always slow!
I hate how I have to deploy my weapons to use them!
I hate their limited lifetime that forces me to hurry up all the time!
I hate how there are like 100 different controllers for every stupid limpet type robbing me of modules!
I hate how you can not resupply them at engineer bases for SOME reason!
I hate how you CAN NOT TRANSFER THEM BETWEEN SHIPS! (has been patched thanks for the info )
I hate how they keep failing at everything!
I hate how collectors waste themselves only because I accidentally selected a cargo in contacts with no chance of telling them not to!

The only thing I like about them is the sound they make... and maybe the visuals.

Really I am looking for the next update. But this long term issue will pretty much keep me away from mining, its already a fiddling nightmare and all those new toys will just add to the clumsiness.

Of course there will be the "gid gud" crowd yelling and screaming because they love their designed difficulty and can't comprehend that others like the game to be a little bit less stressful and easy but really I don't think thats whats mining supposed to be. You guys can Tharg hunt all day if ya want I already accepted they will never give me gimbals for that.

Frontier did the right step with infinite probes. Infinite limpets is next... or at least SOMETHING

I can see keeping repair, refuel and hatchbreaker limpets but why not have a utility mount tractor beam or something similar.

Wait is this the first “the-game-is-doomed-thread” before the new update drops thread?

We need a tradition, like Punxsutawney Phil, if you see a doom thread X days before beta ends ... something something

Edit: Good to see the old threads coming back to life, like it's springtime already ;)

I know, but even I'm letting the 3.3 dust settle before screaming about something.

Per-leeeese...

It's been *four years*.

That's a tour through the military, or high school.

Many players are burnt out.

The game has little chance of changing it's image in a timely enough fashion to bring in new customers.

So, a static, or declining playerbase.

The game will *not* die. There will always be a game.

But the launch window has closed.

New technology has come in. Elite is working on it's old codebase. It's sole advantage is that it is *the* first-person space *flying* game.

No hype for old projects that were it's erstwhile competitors at launch is needed. A new group of freshman has come in, and they are looking at the new set of attractive partners.

Not old "B" stars, with plastic surgery. Bad plastic surgery. :(

A new version of the game is needed. Got money, and interest for the next version? Kickstarter, anyone? :)

Note the threads saying the game was more fun when players came in for the first time.

Or, the threads saying starting over was too easy.

This is a brutal, grindy, game. Once you have been through the hazing rituals, you know what to expect.

And, there, you have your problem.

Confession time:-

My participation in the beta consisted of a week of playing with the FSS/DSS purely so I could make an informed opinion about it (it's lousy) and, after that, I've fired-up ED twice; once to go and visit the system where I allegedly left a 7B fuel-scoop but which turns out to have no facilities where I could have docked in a ship with a C7 scoop and once to take a couple of screenies.

Keep saying the same thing; ED needs new activities, not new toys.

When 3.3 goes live I shall buy a Phantom and a Mamba and then spend some time making numbers go up and then, after that, I dunno.

I'm kind of in two minds because I wouldn't mind spending some time using the new FSS to investigate various things but, y'know, that'd mean actually using it and that's kind of like giving me a Lamborghini with a seat made out of broken bottles and a steering wheel wrapped in barbed wire.

They charged extra for the glass and barbed wire package. Time is money. :)
